About this location
The Puglia region
Apulia is a region in south-eastern Italy bordering the Adriatic Sea in the east, the Ionian Sea to the south-east, and the Strait of Òtranto and Gulf of Taranto in the south. This villa is exactly placed in Salento that is the portion of land that forms a high heel on the "boot" of Italy.
Salento comprises the provinces of Lecce and a part of the provinces of Brindisi and Taranto. You will admire stunning sceneries, immerse in the nature and in the typical land, with large areas cultivated with olive trees; moreover you will find astonishing seascape and wonderful places on the coast.
Roca is between two most known places, San Foca and Torre dell'Orso. Even if Roca is less known than Torre Dell'Orso and San Foca, it may be preferred to those because of several reasons: overall, it is less chaotic and more liveable, and there, you will always find a quiet atmosphere.
Even if Roca Li Posti is a very small place, it can be very interesting cause of its culture and its customs: there are always archaeological discoveries: recently, archaeologist discovered that Roca has been conquered by Turkish, in 1480; it has been destroyed in 1550 and several times after that, but it was reborn again and again. You will find the attestation of a lot of past cultures and civilization.
Roca Li Posti is a place with a mainly rocky coast, even if the sea cliff is easily pervious.
Roca is 20 minutes far from Lecce by car, that is tha capital city of the province.
Lecce is important for other reasons too: in fact it's known as “the Florence of south Italy” because of its Baroque monuments and buildings. Furthermore Lecce is at the 7th place of Lonely Planet' Best in travel Guide of 2010, it is the only city in the whole Italy: If you come in Lecce, you can try the culinary delights, that are famous all around Italy!
Otranto is only 20 minutes by car far from Roca. Otranto is very known all around the world: it is a cultural and artistic town, and its streets are always full by people who love its Gothic, magic atmosphere!
Moreover, literature lovers surely know Otranto since it is the set of Horace Walpole's masterpiece, “The Castle of Otranto”. Otranto shows the attestation of several cultures because of its history:In the 8th century, it was for some time in the possession of duke Arechis II of Benevento. It remained in the hands of the Byzantine emperors until it was among the last cities of Apulia to surrender to the Norman Robert Guiscard in 1068.In 1480, without warning, an Ottoman Turkish fleet invaded Otranto, landing nearby the city and capturing it along with its fort.In 1804, the city was obliged to harbour a French garrison that was established there to watch the movements of the English fleet. Under the French name of Otranto it was created a duché grand-fief de l'Empire in the Napoleonic kingdom of Naples for Joseph Fouché.
