The West Country region

Torquay is in the heart of the English Riviera in the region of Torbay on the south coast of Devon. It is a picturesque area made up of old fishing villages, long sandy beaches, large Victorian villas and family-oriented resorts. There is a variety of activities to enjoy including water sports, cliff/coastal walks, museums, open farms, model villages and more.

The cottage is within a 5 minute drive of the brand new 21 million pound Marina Development. Torquay is at the hub of the English Riviera, with multiple attractions. As well as the Riviera Centre, which is a combined pool (with wave machine), sports centre and theatre complex, Torquay also boasts a new Aquarium, Aqualand and the Princess Theatre. Torquay has long had an extremely active jazz scene, which culminates in an annual jazz festival. The resort features continental style cafes, specialist shopping and an exuberant night-life. Close to St Anns is the smaller Babbacombe Theatre and local sporting facilities include bowls, putting, tennis and golf.

"Not what is advertised"

I was very disappointed in this cottage and would certainly not recommend it to anyone I know.. The day we arrived the toilet was not working , it was 24 hours before it was repaired and I did not app… More

I am sorry that you had a disappointing experience. It is perhaps understandable that when hiring out a holiday cottage, problems do sometimes occur. On hearing from you that there was a problem with the toilet (only on Sunday night), my caretaker went over straightaway to check up on the problem. He reported to me that the toilet was flushing, it was just that the cistern was not filling up. He and a plumber sorted the problem that day. So we did action a solution as soon as was reasonably possible. I am sorry for the inconvenience you experienced however.
As far as the walk to the beach is concerned, I don't understand this. It is possible to walk along Ilsham Road which is much easier route and mostly on the flat, rather than walking through the woods which is more direct, more scenic and hilly. That was explained in our information document.
There is no restriction on parking outside the cottage and it is free of charge. I have never had a problem with this myself. It must have been bad luck if you were unable to find a space.
The garden is advertised as a courtyard garden. I disagree that it is dismal. Garden furniture is provided so that guests can enjoy the sun. Obviously there is no lawn as it is a courtyard garden. As a holiday cottage it is hard to keep flowers as they need watering and the caretaker only has access to the cottage once a week. Unlike the neighbouring cottages where the owners are resident and therefore able to water their flowers daily.
To summarise, I do feel it is un-justified to say that the cottage is not as advertised.

"Cottage is good and in excellent setting."

The cottage is in an excellent setting in Torquay. The central heating heats the cottage very efficiently and provides hot water as required, although it does require additional payment by gas card at… More

Thanks for your review. We bought the cottage as we also felt it was in a great location. There are so many facilities just one minute away, including a bakery, cafe, several restaurants, delicatessen, wine merchant, nice pub etc. and a nice family beach is only a 5-10 minute walk away. We recently had a new combi boiler fitted, which now means hot water is on tap. Thanks again.
