Places of interest
Torquay - a jewel beside the sea with great beaches, exciting attractions and a great base to explore the surrounding area.
Torquay has a wide range of attractions/activities, including Torquay Living Coast Zoo (part of Paignton Zoo), Kents Cavern (prehistoric caves), Model Village, The Princess Theatre with the occasional West End show and a great selection of restaurants to suit all budgets/appetites! For the more active, why not try tennis or bowls either at Cary Park in Babbacombe or on the Torquay seafront or enjoy a swim in the indoor pool at the Riviera International Centre, where the children can enjoy the waves and the flume.
Why not visit lovely St. Marychurch and Babbacombe with its beautiful beaches and stunning views. Here you can enjoy such delights as the Babbacombe Model Village, Bygones Victorian Village and take a unique trip down to Oddicombe Beach via the Babbacombe Cliff Railway. Walk across from Oddicombe Beach to Babbacombe Beach and enjoy lunch at the wonderful Cary Arms, enjoying spectacular views at the same time. After a lovely day at the beach return to Babbacombe Downs and enjoy a meal at one of the many eating establishments, including the award winning Hanburys Fish & Chip Shop. Further beaches include Meadfoot beach (a more local beach to Heywood Lodge) and Torre Abbey Sands.
On a warm summer's evening why not take a stroll around the harbour and marina, where you can walk to many lovely restaurants, including The Hole in the Wall (local pub), No 7 (fish restaurant), Amici's (Italian), Bianco's (Italian) and even the Michelin starred restaurant The Elephant.
A great base to explore the area, but if you wish to go further afield, why not visit the picturesque town of Dartmouth with its Marina, the fishing port of Brixham where fresh fish is landed daily and the Elizabethan Town of Totnes, to name but a view.
