About this location
The English Riviera region
The West Country / Devon region
The English Riviera is a resort in the truest sense of the word, attracting visitors of all ages and interests throughout the year. Undergoing a water front regeneration and a number of new attraction and accommodation schemes, Torquay has something for everyone and for all ages, at all times of the year!
Torquay has been one of the UK 's top holiday destinations since Victorian Times when the gentry promenaded, bathing huts were wheeled down to the beaches and anyone who was anyone had an attractive villa overlooking the sea. There are 22 miles of coastline, cliffs, coves and beaches and walks to rival any in the South West of England, with a climate that belongs somewhere much further south. There are opportunities for surfing, safe swimming, diving, sailing, angling and wonderful opportunities to study the natural wildlife at your leisure
Torbay is the name used for the area comprising Torquay, Paignton and the fishing town of Brixham which are a short drive away. Further afield is the beautiful town of Dartmouth home of the famour author Agatha Christie and the quirky town on Totnes nestled on the River Dart.
