The West Country / Devon region
The West Country is an informal term for the area of South West England and is mostly rural. The landscape is principally granite moorland in the west, chalk and limestone downland and clay vales in the east. Historically, tin mining and the fishery were sources of income and employment, but not so much today, although the latter still contributes to the economy. The region is most famous for its produce of cider, clotted cream and pasties. The climate is generally milder than in more Northern regions and is therefore popular with holidaymakers. There are vast areas of moorland to explore, in particular Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, Dartmoor and Exmoor in Devon, and Cheddar Gorge and Caves in Somerset.
Torquay area
Torquay has something for everyone and for all ages, at all times of the year! Torquay's famous seven hills provide the backdrop to a waterfront scene that matches anything you'll find on the French Riviera. Along the 22 miles of English Riviera coastline are 19 beaches and coves. Some, close to the town centre are wide, open stretches of sand with beach facilities such as cafes, beach huts and water sports. Many are smaller and more secluded. Here are a few places not to be missed on your visit to Torbay: Cockington Village an idyllic hamlet of thatched cottages. Kents Cavern, which is one of the most ancient sites in Great Britain. Babbacombe Model Village is a superb day out and fun for all the family, there is also a fantastic Zoo close by. There are several theatres and cinemas, all of which provide excellent entertainment. Or, if you prefer something a little more energetic then why not play Golf, or go Swimming, or try some of the many other water sports available.
How to get there
The M5 at Exeter leads straight onto the A38. From the A38 take the A380 following the signs into Torquay and Seafront. At the seafront, turn right onto A379, following signs for Paignton, with the sea on your left hand side, drive approximately 600yds and the apartments are on the right hand side of the road just after Seaway Lane.
