Home description
Hesketh Dell is found at the end of Hesketh Crescent set back behind large wrought iron gates, standing in its own secluded grounds of some two thirds of an acre. Situated directly above Meadfoot Beach, the gardens and house enjoy superb sea and coastal views looking towards Berry Head and Thatcher Rock. The sun terrace & secret gardens are a particular feature providing a colourful and ever-changing vista through the seasons. Inside, the house has been tastefully modernised, while retaining features such as deep ornate freezes, cornicing and marble fireplaces. Great care has been taken to furnish the house tastefully and provide a high level of comfort - a wonderful retreat.

The West Country / Devon region
The South Devon has a coastline of spectacular rugged cliffs and headlands, interspersed with lower-lying areas, sandy beaches and the five distinctive ria river estuaries of the Dart, Avon, Yealm, Erme and Salcombe. The coastal scenery also includes reedbeds, sand dunes, shingle ridges, mud flats, salt marshes, and the freshwater lake of Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve. This variety provides habitat for a diverse range of wildlife. The South West Coast Path National Trail running along the whole stretch of heritage coast, provides access to spectacular scenery, long views across bays and the English Channel, interesting beaches, and a scattering of coastal villages & historic towns such as Salcombe & Dartmouth.
Just around the corner from Dartmouth is the vibrant 'English Riviera' - a resort in the truest sense of the word, attracting visitors of all ages and interests throughout the year. Undergoing a water front regeneration and a number of new attraction and accommodation schemes, Torquay has something for everyone and for all ages, at all times of the year!
Torquay has been one of the UK 's top holiday destinations since Victorian Times when the gentry promenaded, bathing huts were wheeled down to the beaches and anyone who was anyone had an attractive villa overlooking the sea.
It was the Victorians who first used the Riviera name to describe their favourite resort and their legacy remains to this day with sparkling white villas perched on the verdant hilltops, beautiful gardens around the seafront and elegant Victorian facades along the main streets. Don't be fooled by the Victorian ancestry however, Torquay is also a vibrant and forward thinking resort attracting visitors of all interests, from Art and Culture afficionados to marine enthusiasts.
Torquay's famous seven hills provide the backdrop to a waterfront scene that matches anything you'll find on the French Riviera.
Torquay area
There are 22 miles of coastline, cliffs, coves and beaches and walks to rival any in the South West of England, with a climate that belongs somewhere much further south. There are opportunities for surfing, safe swimming, diving, sailing, angling and wonderful opportunities to study the natural wildlife at your leisure
Stunning views are to be seen just about every where across the Bay, out over the English Channel , along the 40 miles of Lyme Bay to Portland Bill or inland towards the Tors of Dartmoor. Torquay is an ideal base from which to visit Dartmouth , Totnes, Exeter and Plymouth , all of which are only a few miles distant.
Torquay is a place to relax, to soak up the atmosphere, to take in the scenery, the parks and the gardens and to enjoy the experience of a holiday in a classical English seaside resort, at all times of the year.
Sporting opportunities abound and there is a complete range of accommodation to suit every taste and budget. A rich variety of evening entertainment is provided throughout the Bay, all year round.
Torquay's waterfront is the focus of life in the town. Here you'll find the palm-lined promenade, seafront gardens, a lively harbour and an international marina. The new Living Coasts attraction adds to the variety of the new waterfront and the illuminated bridge is a great backdrop to a relaxing evening drink. Yet within minutes of the town centre there are beautiful beaches easily accessible by foot, road or sea.
There is an abundance of pavement cafes, pubs, restaurants and nightlife, good quality shops and a host of attractions to suit every interest. Torquay.com has created this site with the visitor in mind. We are also proud to be able to offer the Riviera Pass Card helping you to make the most of your stay and your budget! If you would like to make any suggestions as to how we can improve upon the delivery of information or the site please email us.
Along the 22 miles of English Riviera coastline are 19 beaches and covers. Some, close to the town centre are wide, open stretches of sand with beach facilities such as cafes, beach huts and watersports. Many are smaller and more secluded.
Several of our beaches hold coveted awards for cleanliness and water quality. Torbay is a naturally sheltered bay, creating a safe haven for ships of all shapes and sizes in stormy weather. Occasional easterly winds create our own winter storms however and this is when beachcombers make there best finds.
Stretching from the South side of Brixham to Maidencombe, the coast path around the Bay offers excellent and varied walking, with circular walks or point-to-point, with spectacular sea views and an exotic range of flora and fauna.
How to get there
Torbay is served by a main railway line, the M5 motorway to Exeter, airports in both Exeter and Plymouth, a main sea port in Plymouth together with an international marina in Torquay and three harbours at Brixham, Paignton and Torquay.
By Road - Take the M4 from West or East of the country to the M5 going south from Bristol . Follow the M5 south, then at Exeter (90 miles from Bristol ) take the A380 dual carriageway to Newton Abbot and Torquay. At the end of this dual carriageway is the Penn Inn roundabout. Take the second exit toward Torquay and follow the signs. M&S and Sainsbury superstores are on this entry road to Torquay if you wish to do some shopping prior to arrival. On the A380 following the signs into Torquay and Seafront. At the seafront, turn left onto A379, following signs for Babbacombe and Harbour, with the sea on your right hand side, drive under the foot bridge at Abbey Sands, past The Princess Theatre on your right & when you reach the inner harbour, turn left at the Clock Tower roundabout (sign-posted Babbacombe). Carry on up the hill and turn right at the first set of traffic lights onto Parkhill Road, this leads almost immediately into Meadfoot Road and then Meadfoot Sea Road leading to Meadfoot Beach. After driving to the top of the hill and down again - about 1/2 a mile or so, the road widens and you will see the large, black gates to Hesketh Crescent & The Osborne Hotel infront of you -
