Home description
Stand in the gardens and experience the panorama to Torquay. Step from the front door into the living room and you are walking through the arch where the coach was once driven. With original wood beams and windows, this house oozes character but has been modernised and tastefully decorated in classic cottage style to make the best of all the original features. The property is all electric, with storage heaters throughout.
Protea and the Coach House are ideally situated almost at the junction of Old Mill Road and Seaway Lane in the popular area of Chelston, Torquay.
Chelston is one of the most desirable residential areas of Torquay. It is quiet yet has a lively village feel. Walnut Road, about a minute’s walk from Protea, is full of specialist shops, with a Co-op supermarket which stays open until 10pm, a beauty salon, hairdresser, sports shop, butcher, Chinese takeaway, post office/newsagent and the famous Blue Walnut café, which plays host to folk and classical musicians and offers free film nights showing the latest and classic films. Further shops are over the hill in Old Mill Road including a video and DVD hire shop and a café/baker/patisserie. The Chelston Manor, just after the junction of Walnut Road and Old Mill Road, was the original manor house, and keeps all its original features. It has a restaurant and beer garden, and is perfect for a quiet evening meal or a drink.
From Protea, a five minute walk will take you to the seafront at Corbyn Head, which has its own beach. Torre Abbey Sands is the next beach along and is very popular in the summer. Walk right along the promenade, past the Princess Theatre, which stages many popular London and touring shows ranging from ballet, opera and musicals, to the harbour and its cafés and restaurants. The renowned Hoopers department store, often dubbed the Harrods of Torquay, sits adjacent to the water. Its Greenhouse Restaurant on the top floor has spectacular views over the harbour as do many other bars and cafés along Torquay’s cosmopolitan harbour front.
