Please note, that Rowell House is a period property. We recognise that some of the features that we love for their character might make this unsuitable for some guests with restricted movement. We suggest you contact us to discuss this before booking. It is a walk up a steep hill from the harbour and therefore not suitable for those looking for a level location.
About this location
The English Riviera region
We believe that South Devon is one of the most attractive and interesting areas in the UK. Beautiful towns, fantastic beaches and amazing rolling hills combine to make this a perfect holiday venue. You can come here to unwind and always find something to do.
Torbay is made up of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. Torquay is the most grand with it's Victorian houses, harbour and Marina. Paignton is famous for it's golden beaches and Brixham is a traditional fishing village.
Along the coast, next to Torbay, is the South Hams, made up of rolling hills and the beautiful towns of Dartmouth, Totnes and further along Salcombe.
Not far away you have great access to cities Exeter and Plymouth with entertainment and restaurants.
Not forgetting Dartmoor on your doorstep.
And this is just to start ...
Torquay is a fantastic town with it's Victorian grandeur combined with the modern marina. It is famous for Fawlty Towers and a lively night life. But it has breathtaking views, fantastic beaches and many small areas each having it's own unique character away from the hustle and bustle of the centre.
One of these is Meadfoot which we believe has the best of everything. Walk down to Torquay harbour or the other way to Meadfoot beach. Near to great restaurants, but in a quiet tree lined street with open views across Torquay. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do.

"Nice place but not the great place we expected"
Rowell House is well situated near the harbor of Torquay and close to a nummer of nice restaurants. The street is quit steep but that an opinion of someone from the Lowlands. The house had on site par… More

"A very pleasurable period property with bags of character."
We spent a very pleasant week at Rowell House. The house is comfortably appointed and has an idiosyncatic charm. Its location is ideal for exploring the seafront at Torquay, as this is just a short walk from the house. Everything in the area is built on something of an incline, so prepare your legs for this, if they're not used to it.
Apart from a few blown light bulbs in the chandeliers, we could find no fault with the property and had an excellent stay.

"Fantastic house in great location"
This house is beautifully presented and clean with all of the amenities you could ever need plus some extras such as beach toys for the kids. There was ample space for 3 adults and 2 small children not to feel in each others' way. The off street parking space on the drive is a bonus in Torquay although parking permits are also provided. The location is great just a short walk down the hill to the harbour but its far enough away for a quiet nights sleep. We had a fantastic week.

"Very nice house in excellent location in the heart of Torquay"
This was a very well kept house with plenty space in both the bedrooms and the living areas downstairs. I will definitely want to rebook should we decide to stay in Torquay again next year. Had everything we needed for a self-catering holiday.
I don't think you could beat its' location as it is on a very quiet street in the heart of Torquay, only 5 minute walk from the main shopping area and the harbour. Many great places to see nearby. the only downside was that we weren't staying long enough to see them all.

Rowell house is very well situated and the town is within walking distance. Beware if you are not able to walk up the hill though. Two very large bedrooms with handbasins and a small double room. The … More
Clearly we can't do anything about the size of the upstairs toilet. It is usable, but "tight". Your feedback is useful for other potential guests.
On your other points, thankyou for your feedback. We were not aware of the problem in the bathroom, which is new. We will get this looked at. We are aware that the slats on the single beds are not fixed to the base, but nobody has had a problem with this previously and you did not raise this when you were there. We will look to address this if you believe that there is a potential risk.
I'm not sure that an overall feedback of "average" or your ratings for the quality of bedding and mattresses is a fair summary of your comments or give the right information to potential future guests. We welcome your feedback and we will try to address your concerns, but I would suggest looking at your ratings and consider whether these are appropriate.

"A classic example of the English Riviera."
This is a really beautiful house, a great mix of modern good quality design and classical fixtures fittings. It is at the top of a steep drive and took some doing to park on its narrow drive way but once done we were able to leave the car and walk quickly down into the Harbour area for food etc as it is very conveniently sited as well as being tucked quietly away from the hustle and bustle.
It was a real treat to stay in such surroundings, very elegant and posh!!!

"Good location to stay to explore the area"
We stayed at Rowell House for a week to walk a section of the South West Coast path. It was an ideal location for this with excellent transport links. The house is well equipped and very clean. There is a small terrace at the front of the house which is not overlooked, and it is very quiet, even though it is close to the centre of town. It's a great location from which to explore the surrounding area which is lovely. We had a great week.
