The West Country region

Visit Devon and you'll find that there is more to this spectacular and diverse county than you might have thought. In addition to beautiful beaches and stunning scenery, you'll find National Parks, rustic villages and towns, historic buildings and ruins, extreme sports and the best in food and drink all year round.

Torquay is an ideal base from which to explore the Dartmoor National Park which is home to the fascinating Dartmoor Prison museum and offers 450 miles of open moorland. Higher and wilder than anywhere else in southern England, Dartmoor is a place of stark beauty. Each granite tor has it's own profile and the Dartmoor pony is a breed apart. No other part of England is richer in prehistoric remains: stone rows & circles, hilltop burial chambers, granite crosses along with medieval longhouses, clapper bridges and ancient routes make it a must for all outdoor enthusiasts!

The English Riviera may be most famous for its award winning beaches and exotic palm trees, but it has much more to offer than just seaside holidays.

Torquay has more attractions than any other resort in the UK and is a Global Geopark. Getting out on the water is what our visitors love to do, and there is a great selection of boat trips to the likes of Dartmouth and Brixham with tasty local food and fresh fish to enjoy.

As the sun sets across the English Riviera, there are plenty of activities to choose from. You can enjoy a show at one of the acclaimed theatres in Torbay which feature musicals, opera, comedy and drama perfomances throughout the year. If you'd prefer to party the night away you'll be spoilt for choice in Torquay. With a wide range of Torquay pubs, Torquay bars and Torquay nightclubs to suit all tastes, there is plenty to choose from.

Torquay

Moorings is peacefully situated in an acre of garden near the village of Wellswood. From Moorings you are a three minute car ride to the heart of town, marina, harbour and main shopping areas.

A ten minute walk through beautiful Lincombe woods will take you to arguably Torbay's finest beach - Meadfoot. With it's southerly outlook, clear waters and views across to Thatcher Rock, Paignton and Brixham it deserves it's reputation as one of the region's best.

Wellswood village itself is a five minute woodland stroll away and one of the most charming areas of Torquay. Everything you could need for day to day living is catered for. From restaurants, wine shop, post office, village pantry to a local pub. The Kents pub is known for it's excellent food, sunny beer garden and friendly atmosphere.

The village is also the birthplace of crime writer Agatha Christie and home of the Gleneagles Hotel which was inspiration for John Cleese's Fawlty Towers. The hotel fully embraces it's roots and has very much improved since the days of Monty Python's infamous stay! You can have a drink at Basil's Bar and take in the views which overlook Anstey's Cove and Redgate Beach with panoramic sea views across Lyme Bay.

Finally, Kents Cavern Caves is one of Europe's top prehistoric Stone Age caves. With an extensive labyrinth of spectacular and easily accessible caverns open daily and all year round it's an absolute must.
