"A truly Umbrian experience"

We received a wonderfully warm welcome at Fattoria Spinola from Fiorbellini Spinola and her staff. Throughout our stay, everyone was so friendly and helpful, making our holiday something really special. A very generous breakfast basket and two bottles of wine from the Spinola vineyard were waiting for us on our arrival. After tasting these wines and 3 others, we bought several boxes to take home. All these wines are available only from the Fattoria. Fiorbellina told us a lot about the history of the Spinola family and showed us round the main house on the property containing the fascinating family archive.

We were kept very well supplied with fresh vegetables and new-laid eggs throughout our stay. We fed all our vegetable waste to the chickens and any stale bread to Luna the donkey. Other animals we could see from our kitchen window were geese, goats and horses.

Villino Fattoria is a lovely apartment on the first floor overlooking a large courtyard. It was very comfortable for the two of us and with a sofa bed in the living room as well. It was good to get away from television for a while and relax in the evenings, reading and playing cards. Afternoons were spent at the pool, which we had entirely to ourselves most of the time.

The town of Torgiano is a short cycle ride away from Fattoria Spinola and we found the wine and oil museums very interesting and informative, together with the wine and olive oil shops. There is an excellent large supermarket 5 minutes away by bike where we bought fresh bread and croissants every morning. We cooked for ourselves on most evenings but we did have a memorable meal at Siro, a restaurant in town. We found Torgiano a good centre for visiting Perugia and Assissi as well as many other towns and villages in Umbria by car or bike.

We would heartily recommend Villino Fattoria at Fattoria Spinola as an excellent base for a holiday in Umbria.

Thank you so much! You have been very nice and kind guests! I was very honoured to host you! Hope to welcome you again at Fattoria Spinola, maybe with a better weather!
