in Torcross, a charming first-floor apartment, one of three created with much flair by the owner and looking straight to the beach and out to sea: a lovely view. The seafront road is traffic-free except for access.

From a small, enclosed courtyard (table/chairs, barbecue, shared access), own outside stairs up to porch, front door and hall. Living room with woodburner, breakfast bar/stools, TV/Sky/DVD, door to balustrade and that lovely view; this is divided from the kitchen (slimline dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer) by a semi-open old timber and plaster screen. Pretty double bedroom (5 bed) and bathroom (suite, shower over bath). No children, except pre-crawling babies. A very nice place to stay and remarkably peaceful for such a prime seafront position.

About this location

The Devon region

The South Hams: southernmost Devon; between the river Dart and river Tamar and south of Dartmoor, lush farmland and wooded river valleys turning to beautiful estuaries, its coast very beautiful and remarkably well preserved sandy beaches and mighty cliffs between those estuaries, amazingly little sprawling modern ugliness. Inland too, away from main roads, it remains surprisingly peaceful.

Among special coastal places are Dartmouth; sheltered Blackpool Sands; Slaptons long curve of pebble beach and nature reserve lagoon; the cliffs about Start Point and Prawle Point, Bolt Head and Bolt Tail; East Portlemouths beach and Salcombes location and views; Thurlestone proving that family seaside places dont need to be brash; Bigburys huge sands and the fun of getting to Burgh Island; waterside, oak-wood-sheltered Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers; many others, less easy of access, are for you to discover.

Kingsbridge and Totnes, both old, attractive and small, are the towns at the areas heart; Plymouth the West Countrys biggest town, with Naval base, ferry port, theatre, cinemas, history, Hoe (great views) and Barbican (where the life is) is on the areas edge. Dartington Hall is an arts centre (films, plays, music, dance) with lovely gardens. Pleasure cruisers ply the Kingsbridge estuary and Dart and Tamar rivers.

Torcross

Torcross: village (shops, PO, pub, restaurants, chapel) of fishermen's old cottages and Victorian houses at the southern end of Slapton Sands and the fresh

water lagoon of Slapton Ley. Beautiful, unspoilt coast and country (hilly farmland,

stream-valleys): Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a nature

conservation zone and Coastal Preservation Area. Superb cliff walks.

Dartmouth (town), 9 miles; Thurlestone, 11; Salcombe, 13.

"holiday appartment"

We stayed at this apartment in June this year, we found it excellent. There was everything there that we needed. Open the French windows and very calming to listen to the sea. Only a few minutes from… More
