Welcome to luxury holidays in Devon - and a hugely more enjoyable, and modern way to enjoy self catering whilst on holiday in the West Country. Cliff House has been designed and equipped to provide you with the “feel” and modernity of a boutique hotel whilst at the same time allowing you the comforts of being totally independent.
Cliff House is one of the oldest houses in the village, brimming with extensive period features and character, including stone walls, flagstone floors, original timber beams, doors and fireplaces. Recently redecorated, doors from virtually all the rooms lead out to the secluded terraces or balconies that make the most of the wonderful seaviews and track the sun all day long. Several reception rooms means that everyone has room to relax and four large bedrooms sleep 8 in comfort. Spacious, light-filled and very welcoming, this house really is a must for those looking for something special.
Located on the top of the cliff, the stunning views across the sea are un-interrupted ; from the Mew Stone and the mouth of the Dart Estuary, sweeping around Start Bay and including Slapton Sands and Ley to Start Point Lighthouse and over the beautiful South Hams countryside. From local croissants and coffee at breakfast to the very last glass of Sharpham's wine before bed you will find it hard to tear yourself away from an ever-changing vista of boats, sunrises, sunsets, seagulls and stars – all accompanied by the soporific breaking of the waves directly below.
Cliff house is the ideal location for an extended family or two families holidaying together who are looking for relaxation right by the sea, but close enough to Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe , if you are feeling more energetic.

Have a look at our “Out & About” section on our website for extensive details on where to go, what to eat, what to do etc over a wide area of Devon. From walking to kayaking, from pubs to fine dining, from farmers markets to pick-your-own, from beaches to spas, from gardens to golf, from sailing to ferries, we hope to give you so much to do that one week won’t be enough!
Holidays in Devon have always had a nostalgic rosy glow about them, and Torcross is no exception. It is an unspoilt coastal village located in a designated Area of Outstanding Beauty and enjoys glorious views of Start Bay which extends from the Mew Stone and encompasses the famous Blackpool Sands beach, the glorious 3 mile sweep of Slapton Sands and culminates in the craggy cliffs that curve round to Start Point Lighthouse. The village nestles between the beach on one side and the freshwater lake of Slapton Ley on the other and is a great location for bird watchers, walkers, sailors and beach lovers alike. Small as it is, Torcross offers all the facilities you need for a successful and enjoyable self-catering holiday with a celebrated inn and restaurant, cafes, post office/village store, family butchers, pottery and nearby farmshop. Cliff House is a mere 5 minutes walk away from the centre of the village [this is downhill– its more like 10 minutes going back!] and as we offer 2 dedicated car parking spaces you won’t want to take the car.

"A fabulous way to ring in the new year!"
We joined a party of 9 teenagers and adults to celebrate New Year, 2012. The new owners, Tracy and David, invited us to share their new year celebrations and experience the fabulous facilities of Cliff House and the surrounding area. My wife and I took the train from Paddington to Totnes. It was then only a 25 minute drive to Cliff House, via Majestic Wine Warehouse (a stones throw from the station) to pick up the obligatory NY Eve champagne. Tracy and David have transformed Cliff House, giving it a bright and modern feel, whilst maintaining the character of a classic seaside residence. Cliff House, has all the facilities that a group of friends needs to have a great holiday. Cooking for the group was easy and there were plenty of games and DVD's to keep us all engaged when the inevitable rain came. The house has WiFi and a great large screen TV... so there is something for everyone on the entertainment front. The house purchases on the cliffs above Torcross with sweeping 180 degree views across the surrounding bays. A flight of steps leads directly down to Torcross which has a small selection of shops, including and excellent butcher. We ate at the local pub which serves a great pint of Tribute and has some of the best seafood in the area. Tracy has compiled a list of all the local restaurants and places of interest.... and the house has an excellent collection of history books, including ones dedicated to the important role that Torcross played in WWII and the infamous Operation Tiger. We will certainly be returning to Cliff House and next time we hope to take advantage of the coastal path and some of the extensive walks that the area boasts. Yes, I personally know Tracy and David, but I can say in all honesty say that Cliff House offers an excellent standard of accommodation, providing a luxurious base camp to explore this stunning part of the country.
