to London Charing Cross or to the seaside at Hastings! There are so
many places to visit from The Bothy, you are spoilt for choice.
Castle with its wonderful Gatehouse, takes you back almost 740 years! Set in
landscaped gardens with picturesque grounds overlooking the River Medway,
Tonbridge Castle is reputedly England's finest example of a Norman
motte and bailey castle. Tours are available from the Tourist Information
Centre. There is a great bookshop
located in this part of Tonbridge, Mr Books, in a beautiful medieval
building. Tonbridge even has its own
theatre, The Oast Theatre inside the 19th Century Kentish oast house, with 10
productions every year!
There are a variety of
wonderful houses and gardens to visit, including the National Trust properties
such as Ightham Mote (15 minutes’ drive), Hever Castle and Scotney Castle (20

Bodiam Castle, although in Sussex, is only 30
minutes’ drive and Penshurst Place is not far from the holiday cottage, with

Bedgebury Forest and
National Park is only 20 minutes’ drive away, which is a stunning area of
natural beauty miles of walks and cycling paths, including ‘Go Ape,’ a hugely
fun activity where you can swing through the trees. Nearby Bewl water is the
largest area of inland water in the South-East. If you are a water sports
enthusiast, this is the place to visit with lots of activities including

minutes away where you can learn to rock climb, build rafts and even ski on the

A visit to Royal
Tunbridge Wells is a must. It’s a very attractive town with great shopping
facilities. It was established as a spa town in Georgian times and was very
popular under Richard (Beau) Nash when the Pantiles and its Chalybeate Spring
attracted visitors from all over Europe who wanted to try the waters. Nowadays, it is a pleasant
place to wander, admire the architecture and visit its antique shops and
cafes. Great for those who love shopping
All in all there is
lots to see and do and for more ideas please look at the ‘things to do’ section
