The South East England region

East

Peckham is a large village just 5 miles east of Tonbridge and has three pubs

surviving from the days when hop pickers thronged to the area. One such pub is

The Man of Kent, a delightful Grade II listed traditional Coaching Inn dating

back to 1588, with many attractive features, including low-beamed ceilings, oak

doors and a large wood burning inglenook fireplace. Located next to the River

Bourne you can sit and relax, enjoying a fresh bite to eat by the river.

The

nearest shops are in the village (less than a mile), a short 5 min drive or 10

min cycle. The local farm is only a few minutes away and you can purchase freshly

picked seasonal fruit and logs for the fire. For anything more, Tonbridge is

the place with plenty of supermarkets. Along its historic and lengthy high

street you will find many glorious buildings, including the very well renowned

Tonbridge Boys School. The beautiful Tonbridge Castle and Park are at one end

of the high street, with the more modern shops and station at the other.

East

Peckham is about 12 miles north east of Royal Tunbridge Wells, a thriving spa

town. Stop by the historic area known as The Pantiles; with its art galleries,

boutiques, restaurants and cafes. For more mainstream high street shopping and

the indoor Victoria Shopping Centre, venture down to the other end of the town. It is a really thriving town

with an excellent sports and social scene.

A

rural haven, you will never be short of things to do whilst staying at the

cottages. The surrounding area roundabout is laced with footpaths and well

worth exploring. Fantastic country walks lead from outside your door, yet you are still within

easy reach of the County town of Maidstone with its medieval buildings,

cultural attractions, global cuisine and vibrant night life.

As East Peckham is the centre of the ‘hop industry’,

you may want to visit the Hop Farm with its massive oast kilns; the largest

group of its kind in the world. It is now open to the public as a museum and

many concerts and events take place there during the year.

Other attractions and towns well worth a visit include Bedgebury National

Pinetum, a 300 acre site containing over 12,000 trees and shrubs, many of which

are rare and endangered, and the historic town of Tenterden, perfect for a spot

of afternoon tea! Even the great sights

of the city of London are only an hour's drive away or 35 mins by fast train

from nearby Tonbridge Station – the choice is yours. If you would like to visit France, Hideaway

Cottage is about a 30 mins drive from Ebbsfleet International Station, where

you can jump on the Eurostar (2hr journey time to Paris) and about 40 minutes’

drive to London Gatwick. For a day trip on a Ferry, the Port of Dover is only a

1 hour drive away. If you decide to go

to France, don’t forget to pack your passport!
