The two castle cottages (newly refurbished) are adjacent to the 15th century Butlerstown castle, and surrounded by their own private Butterfly Haggard and a Herb Garden. Butlerstown has been in the ownership of the same family for many generations, and it has been the wish of the current generation for many years that its beauty and tranquility should be made more available to the public. Set in over 100 acres of peaceful farm and woodland, we are just 10 minutes drive from the closest good beach. There is a small soccer pitch for children to play on, and animals to feed. A good variety of local restaurants, pubs (such as the Lobster Pot pub/restaurant), riding stables, golf courses, museums, deep sea fishing from Kilmore Quay, bird heritage sites (such as the Saltee Islands, North Slob, Our Lady's Island and Tacumshin Lake) are all within easy striking distance. Donkeys, sheep, free range hens and other pet animals, as well as an ancient well and traditionally run vegetable garden, all help to make Butlerstown a unique place.

The Province of Leinster region
Bagenal Harvey cottage is in the sunniest corner of Ireland, and as the crow flies is just 1 mile from the sea. Set in the precincts of Butlerstown Castle, one of the best preserved 'Tower Houses' in Ireland, the place itself is rich in history; for it has been within the Boxwell family and their descendants now for at least 7 generations. Bagenal Harvey cottage is named after the lawyer who lived in neighbouring Bargy Castle, and became leader of the Wexford insurgents in the 1798 rebellion for a short time. It was he who asked for Butlerstown Castle to be bequeathed to his Boxwell cousins shortly before he was killed.

"A gorgeous place and welcome from the owners"
The cottages are gorgeous, beautifully decorated with a real attention to detail. The kitchens were fully kitted out with all utensils you could use and the owners had some essentials provided on our arrival. We had 6 children with us and you could hardly get them inside for the whole weekend from tennis on the lawn to football, and they feeding the chickens and donkeys. We also really enjoyed the tour of the castle that "King Jim" provided.
Thanks to Anna and Jim for their hospitality, we felt so welcome and comfortable without feeling intruded upon. And the adults had a great few nights in front of the log fires.
A brilliant place for a family break.
