Home description
Fourget is a newly refurbished gite in a 200 year old longhouse, still retaining its traditional exposed stone and beams. It is set in farmland with outstanding views over the countryside. The swimming pool has a huge terrace with the same commanding views. The area is calm and tranquil, making Fourget the perfect haven, a 'getaway' from the stresses and strains of everyday life, and yet golf, fishing, a hotel and bar, an epicerie, boulangerie and boucherie are less than 2 km away. The nearest hypermarket is 15 minutes away.
The gite benefits from its own private pool and garden. Patio doors lead from the living room onto the terrace, perfect for al fresco dining and furnished with comfortable patio furniture and a gas barbecue. Unfortunately it is unsuitable for children under five years old.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne region
This area is the garden of France, and justifiably famous for its food, wine and good restaurants. Tobacco, sunflowers, walnuts, figs, plums, apricots and maize are the main crops. Specialities include foie gras, prunes, and armagnac as well as numerous duck dishes! The countryside is hilly and has wonderful distant views, and the climate is warm and dry. August can be very hot but you can always cool off in the pool! Let's not forget the wine! Vineyards are all around us including Buzet to the south, Bergerac to the north, Duras to the west and further west, St Emilion, for those with a more discerning palate. St Emilion, a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a fascinating place for historians. Much of St Emilion is hidden from view, deep underground in a labyrinth of passages and rooms. This part of the town can be visited on a guided tour, during which you will see the catacombs, the buried part of the church, the grotte where emilion lived in the 8th century, and other parts of the extensive underground labyrinth. There is also a the 13th century bell tower and the underground pottery museum, located in a 12th century quarry and with pottery spanning the period from roman times to today. At Lougratte, approximately 20 minutes drive, is a man made sandy beach on a lake, surrounded by a large grassed area with picnic tables. The lake is manned by lifeguards and there is also a children's play park with water chute and boat hire. Parc Walabi is a large theme park near Agen - about 45 minutes drive, and there is a treetop adventure park, the Parc en Ciel at Lacapelle-Biron, about 30 minutes away. At Toulouse, 2 hours away, you can go on a guided tour of the Airbus A380 and Concorde (see www.uk.toulouse-tourisme.com/sights-and-visits-airbus-visit,1212906,16,62) and www.taxiway.fr). Also in the same direction is the medieval walled town of Carcassonne, (www.carcassonne.culture.fr/) which was featured in the book 'Labrynth' by Kate Mosse, Also at Carcassonne is the Canal du Midi.
Tombeboeuf area
Tombeboeuf is less than 2km away. It's a typical French town, with boulangerie, boucherie, epicerie, post office, hairdresser, hotel and bar, doctor, and pharmacy. Just two hundred metres out of town is a nine hole golf course. The course (www.golfdebarthe.com) is a par 36 and is run by a friendly English couple, Kim and Brian. Visitors are welcome and you can hire clubs if you don't want to bring your own. If you like to fish instead, there's a lake nearby.
The nearest large town, Tonneins, has a hypermarket, a health food shop, hairdressers, banks and several restaurants including chinese! There are numerous little medieval bastide towns to visit, Monpazier, Monflanquin, Issigeac, and Pujols. Throughout the summer many of the surrounding villages hold night markets, at Laparade, for example, where you can choose from the local food and wine of the area and eat it at tables on the green to the sound of live music. Other events include medieval days with jousting and fire-eating in all the towns along the Dropt, a white wine and oyster fair at Eymet, a weekend of music and dramatic events at Miramont and the tomato festival at Marmande.
