About the home

Sunset Chalet is located just 15 minutes from Tomar where the Templar Castle and the Convent of The Knights of Christ can not be missed. Fatima is well worth a visit as is Dornes. The beautiful Castelo do Bode dam with river beach (12 Km) nearby for a swim or water sports. Boat trips can also be arranged. The house has easy access to all amenities, including the local market and several restaurants for eating out.

The house has a private fenced pool, perfect for the children, and an outside furnished area for eating in the open air. On the ground floor: 4 twin bedrooms (2 ensuites) and 2 bathrooms. For larger groups we also rent the 1st floor with: 2 double bedrooms (2 ensuites), 1 twin bedroom (ensuite) and 1 large room with 2 bunk beds for 6 children with bathroom.
The villa is ideal for families, with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay.

The Costa de Prata/Silver Coast/Central Portugal region

The Silver Coast is an area extremely rich in History: in Tomar, 18 Km away, you have the Castle and the Convent of Christ, the heart of the Templar Knights; Fátima which is 40 Km far, is known all over the religious world; Pombal, Ourém, Leiria and Porto de Mós, all in a distance of not more than 50 Km, have their old castles very well preserved. In a distance of 80 Km you have several well known beaches, Peniche, S. Pedro de Moel, and the famous Berlenga Island, unique in Portugal for its natural and wild life. And also Nazaré and its Praia do Norte, where Garrett McNamara surfed the worldwide famous 30 meters wave! It is a region of warm temperatures which can be sometimes quite hot during the day, getting always cooler by night, but warm enough to allow you some dinners al fresco! A golf course, Golden Eagle, is in Rio Maior, 90 Km far.

The Tomar / Pias area

During Summer, several representations usually about middle age events, take place in the Tomar Castle. Also in July, every 4 years we have the Tabuleiros festival , where usually 300 boys and women carry bread and flower baskets 2 meters high on their heads, dressed in extremely beautiful dresses. Near Ferreira do Zêzere, in a distance of 15 Km, you have the longest dam in Portugal, Castelo do Bode, where you can rent a boat, fish, practice water sports, among some beautiful river beaches. Also 25 Km away there is Castelo de Almourol, a beautiful templar castle on an island, in the middle of the Tagus river.

Most budget airlines fly into Lisboa and Oporto (Easyjet, Monarch Airlines, Ryanair, Air Berlin, German Wings, Vueling, etc.). Quinta da Barcoiça is easily reached by car, so the best solution is to hire a car at the airport. Most car hire companies are represented in both airports and cheap deals can be found easily on the internet.
You will take around 1 hour 30 minutes from Lisbon and 2 hours from Oporto. Coming either from Lisbon or from Oporto, take the A1, exit at Km 94 for the A23, direction Abrantes / Torres Novas. After 18 Km, exit for A13 in the direction of Tomar / Coimbra, proceed for about 32 Km, then take the exit marked Pias / Ferreira do Zêzere Norte. At the first roundabout turn left, direction Pias, which you will reach after 1 Km. First sharp turn to your right you have a signal to the left saying Outeiro dos Pereiros (BE CAREFUL HERE!!!). Take it, keep always to your right, and after 1,5 Km the road finishes in front of the gate of the property. GPS coordinates are: N 39º 42' 54,30'' W 8º 20' 14,66''

“The villa was a real home from home. Very relaxing, great views, quiet location, lots of space and well equipped.” The house is lovely, even though you only stay in the ground floor accomodation it is very spacious with 4 good sized bedrooms, a large living room, dining room and a very good sized kitchen to cater for a large group of people. The house was very clean and extremely well equipped as the family use the house regularly. The house is very private, although there are properties nearby you are not overlooked. The owner was very helpful and met us at the property on arrival and gave us some advice about the local facilities and day trips. Tomar is a lovely place to visit and has nice restaurants and cafes. The Castle in Tomar is an interesting trip as is Fatima. Lisbon is not too far away for a day trip.

“A beautiful house, set in expansive, well-kept grounds, in a scenic, peaceful setting.” My husband, 2 teenage sons and I very much enjoyed staying at Barcoica; indeed, we are planning when we can return! The house is extremely comfortable and beautifully appointed. As soon as you step inside you appreciate that it is a much-loved family home with a heart, and not just a holiday let. The surrounding views are lovely; the house has the benefit of seclusion without feeling alarmingly isolated. The grounds are well-maintained by a gardener who visits discreetly every day and who also tends the excellent pool. As keen cooks, we loved the kitchen, which had every conceivable utensil and facility! Our sons loved the pool, the space to play badminton and the two charming dogs - an optional attraction (they are kept well out of the way in a kennel) which we all greatly enjoyed. It was such a restful place to be that we did little other than read in the garden, swim and generally enjoy being there. We visited Tomar and the Convento de Cristo, the nearby lake (where the boys kayaked) and the charming local town which has a great market on Mondays. Truly, a super house for a holiday.

“home sweet home” the perfect location for relaxing vacation with family and kids. wonderful house; the place i'd like to live in.

“A lovely, spacious family home in a beautiful location” When we first arrived at the property we couldn't believe it was the same one we had booked. We seriously went looking for the smaller lodge around the corner! We liked it so much we have been there twice (2009 & 2010). This house is magnificent in it's size, presentation and location. Perfect for quiet family holidays. 8 of use went, 4 adults and 4 children. The children loved the gardens and pool area, very safe and very clean. The adults enjoyed the space inside the house, the beautiful surrounding area and the local towns. The house is the 'star' though. It has been lovingly restored to a magnificent classical, standard and very well equipped It has a very grand entrance hall with a large country style kitchen, a dining room, a sitting room, 4 double/twin bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Easy to find, Jorge, the owner speaks very good English and only an hour or so from Lisbon. We loved it.
