THE BLUE VILLA SLOVENIA is located in the rural village of Polujubinj, 1 kilometre from Tolmin in the heart of the stunning emerald Soča Valley, Northwest Slovenia, with panoramic views of the nearby Julian Alps.
The Villa has recently been renovated to a high standard and is ideal for family, romantic, activity or small group holidays. As you enter, the first floor has a large fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, washing machine, range stove and excellent Gorenje electric cooker. We love to cook at THE BLUE VILLA SLOVENIA, and the kitchen has been designed with space and facilities in mind, and has full equipment for home cooking.
The Living Room has TV, WiFi, DVD player, USB inputs if you bring you own movies to watch on an external drive, a selection of board games, a cosy wood burning stove, plenty of comfortable seating and a couch/bed for extra sleeping. Our TV system is linked to the Hi-Fi, so feel free to plug your music into the stereo and enjoy!
The Dining Room next to the Living Room seats 6 guests for those special dinners, with a great '70s dining light from the old Yugoslavia, a dinner-conversation starter!
A key feature of THE BLUE VILLA's downstairs bathroom is the power shower. With a 200-litre boiler, there is plenty of hot water. All our guests remark on how great their skin feels after using it; the water in this part of Slovenia is superb, straight from the Julian mountains, and with a 5.5ph balance, the best for your skin.
Going upstairs, the first floor has a Master bedroom decorated in a classic style with a bed that can be arranged as a Double or Twin. Across the landing there is a second smaller bedroom with a double or twin bed, so two couples, or four friends, can stay at THE BLUE VILLA easily. The second bedroom has a walk through Dressing Room onto the landing, which can easily be arranged as a single bedroom if you wish. The wardrobe in this room also serves any guests staying on the couch/bed in the Living Room downstairs.
THE BLUE VILLA's upstairs bathroom has a lovely free-standing deep bath for a relaxing soak after a walk in the mountains.
To the side of the house there is a south-facing garden terrace (behind our barn) with a pergola covered with grape vines to shade you from the sun, which shines here all day. In season, you can pick grapes to go with your wine! There is parking for three cars outside the house and barn, and the village has a great local bar and restaurant, which you can visit for a drink, or book to dine out for the evening if you wish.

The Slovenian Littoral Region
The location of the Villa at the foot of the Julian Alps on the very edge of the Triglav National Park is in one of the most central, easily accessible parts of Europe. Slovenia is bordered by Italy, Austria, Croatia and Hungary. THE BLUE VILLA SLOVENIA is within 2 hours drive of four international airports, the Goriška region of Slovenia being the very Northwest tip of the former Yugoslavia.
We fell in love with the area 12 years ago for three reasons: the stunning beauty, the wonderful friendly nature of the people, and the fact that there is every kind of relaxing and more extreme sport and past time to enjoy in the region. We have spent this time getting to know the Soča Valley and the surrounding areas, and our network and knowledge of the area is unrivalled.
To accompany your trip, if you need any information about activities, landmarks, walking routes, attractions, swimming spots, caves, beach resorts, shopping, and of course fantastic slow-food restaurants and vineyards, please don't hesitate to enquire.
WALKING AND HIKING
The local area is charming. The Julian Alps provide walking and hiking that is totally breathtaking, and unlimited. From short low walks along the emerald-green Soča River to high peaks with astounding views. The largest mountain in the region, Krn, (pronounced 'krrr-run') will give you views over Austria, on a clear day, as far as the Matterhorn. Walk past the star observatory up to the small Chapel at Matajur and enjoy ethereal views over 3 countries. Down at the western end of the valley is the charming Nadiza River; this is much warmer than the Soča, and there are many secret pools and secluded places for a swim during your walk.
Here is just one of the hundreds of local routes for a great walk: Tolmin has a fantastic castle, Koslov Rob standing above it: the circular walk around the hill up is really enjoyable. Finish with a lovely lunch or dinner at Stefan's restaurant at the foot of the hill. Continue through the pretty village of Zatolmin, buy some cheese from the dairy shop there, and make your way through the village to the stunning Tolmin Gorge (Tolminska Korita), cutting a crazy steep path up past The Devil's Bridge to the famous Dante's Cave.
WORLD WAR HISTORY
The Valley was the scene of historic battles and heavy fighting between Italy and (then) Austro-Hungary along the Isonzo Front which runs all the way along the Valley, especially in the First War. There are many walks through sites of special historic interest, where you can see ruins of trenches, gun-emplacements, barbed wire and pill-boxes: there are sites where the Trench Systems have been restored and made into Museums: One such, Kolovrat, overlooks THE BLUE VILLA from the Italian Border, has amazing views of two countries, and is well worth a visit. Take a picnic and reflect while enjoying panoramic views of both Italy and Slovenia.
The Soča Valley has many more attractions and is great for family, group and sports holidays.
All along the valley are access points to the lovely emerald-green Soča River. This and the joining Tolminka and Idrija rivers provide world-class Fly-Fishing in stunning settings. The world- famous indigenous Soča Marble Trout is delicious and served in almost all the restaurants, but of course you can catch your own!
The Soča, as well as the nearby Tolminka, Bača, Idrijca, Nadiza, and many other stunning rivers in the area are rich in insect life and flow over limestone, giving it's lovely emerald green-blue colour, and in addition to the trout are home to adriatic grayling, rainbow trout, marble/brown trout hybrid, brown trout, chub and barbel. Permit Prices are reasonable and permits are available from the local Tourist Office. It really is no overstatement to say that this great place is a Fisherman's Paradise!
Along the river there are many places to take part in great watersports such as canoeing, kayaking, canyoning, team rafting, and team building. We have a great local river-sports agency who have been our dear friends for years. They are unrivalled in their service, quality, value, programme and safety record. Please ask for more details.
CYCLING AND MOTOR-CYCLING
The Soča Valley is a world-class centre for cycling and motor cycling, both on and off road. Purpose-built tracks provide excitement in nature with routes through forests and woods. The old road from Tolmin to Kobarid is one of the world's most beautiful roads, and makes a lovely afternoon lazy cycle into the sunset.
As a former Paraglider pilot, the initial reason I bought THE BLUE VILLA is almost directly outside. The mountain above the house, Kobala, provides the take off point for fantastic paragliding; the route along the valley can take you into the Dolomites. Many top-flight competitions are staged here, which make a great spectacle.
If you are not a pilot, but you would like to experience the thrill of flight here, THE BLUE VILLA can easily arrange for you to take a panoramic Tandem Paragliding flight over the valley. Also to the south, near to Nova Gorica, is a great smaller flying site, Lijak, with lovely views over Trieste when you get high up. There are plenty of local companies who will shuttle you up the mountains and give you great advice and guiding around the local and wider areas.
Our lovely Valley is a great equestrian centre. There are great stables all over the area, with horses, guides and instructors for all ages and abilities. Beautiful riding routes will take you all over the mountains and across the border. Here at THE BLUE VILLA, we can put you in touch with riding stables in the area.
FINE DINING, WINES and into ITALY
The Valley and surrounding areas are home to many great restaurants. Nearby Kobarid boasts many. At the high end, Hiša Franko has two Jeune Restauranteur d'Europe stars, and serves haute cuisine in an exquisite setting on the outskirts of the town. Kotlar is a great fish restaurant, and there is the charming and romantic campsite Lazar, which will serve beautiful grilled trout from the river in a romantic atmosphere.
Goriška Brda, (pronounced Gorr-ishka-Brr-da!) is a beautiful wine-growing region just 45 minutes drive from THE BLUE VILLA. There are hundreds of fantastic independent wine producers here who will welcome you in, sit you on their terrace overlooking beautiful views down to Trieste and the Adriatic, and allow you to sample and buy their lovely wines. Many have slow-food restaurants that will provide a beautiful, indulgent lunch or dinner for very reasonable prices. On a recent trip, myself and four friends ate a stunning lunch with 4 bottles of excellent in-house wine for 25 euros each. This continues over the border into Italy, with many slow food and wine producers.
Just over the border in Italy are some great, cosmopolitan and sophisticateds towns that are well worth visiting: San Pietro provides great swimming on the Nadiza River, Cividale and Gradisca have lovely town squares, delicatessen eating, awesome coffee and ice-cream parlours, and wonderful flea-markets at the weekends.
If you continue south, you can find such great places as Aqueila, where you can visit beautiful ancient ruins of Roman-era cathedral and a city. South of here it is a short drive to the Italian coast where lovely coastal towns such as Duino, Sistiana and Monfalcone will provide a great day out to the beach, just the thing for families!
Head inland, back into Slovenia, from these resorts and there is no end of great places to visit. This is the world famous Karst region, home to the farms producing famous air-dried ham and fine cheeses. Also near here you can find the world famous Lipizaner Horse centre, and the beautiful Cave Systems at Skocjan and Postojna.
Distance to next airport: Trieste 50 Km
Distance to next trainstation: Most na Soci 2 Km
Distance to next motorway: A1 30 Km
Distance to the sea: Adriatic 60 Km
Distance to next shop: 1.5 Km

"Great scenery in a laid back, friendly country"
Couldn`t fault the locals for open-ness, and willingness to practise their English (and German !). Slovenia seems to be more tourist-friendly than ever. The local mountains are stunning. Appealing accommodation for .say, a group of singles with an appetite for the great outdoors and all the adventurous stuff.
Not so sure about it for a family holiday for people accustomed to high standards of cleaning, etc, although Sam and his caretaker are certainly very helpful regarding directions , places to eat and local information.
Hi Mark, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for your recent stay at Villa Klementina in Slovenia. I was very sorry to hear that there was an issue with cleanliness in the bathroom; unfortunately, I am unable to check all turnarounds at the Villa, as I am back and forth to the UK regularly. I am sorry you found the cleanliness of the bathroom to be unsatisfactory. I won't be using the same cleaner again next year and will be checking in with future guests to ensure that the standards of cleanliness I demand are being kept.
