Its mild spring characterised by the cherry blossom season, is followed by long warm summer, where one can enjoy an idyllic walk through meadow landscapes or just relax in the shade of the forest or on one of the many lakes, rivers or brooks nearby. If you are looking for holiday rental accommodation in German lakes and mountains autumn shows the region in glorious colours, signalling the wine and fruit harvest, with winter turning the Black Forest into a fairytale setting with its romantic snow-covered landscapes and farmhouses. The Black Forest was the birthplace of skiing in central Europe, with the first ski club being founded at the Feldberg Mountain, that rises to a height of 1,493 metres. It was here that the first wooden skis were produced and the first ski lift built. Today, the Feldberg region is one of the largest ski resorts outside of the Alps and you can get to the lifts via the free bus service in the winter season - October to May when our self catering holiday apartment is also available.

The Baden-Wurttemberg / Schwarzwald/Black Forest region

The Black Forest extends from Karlsruhe South to Basel with beautiful woodland, meadows and lakes all the way. We are in the part with the highest mountains and not far from the Schluchsee lake and the well-known Titisee lake, so it is an ideal all year round holiday resort - walking, cycling, swimming, boating, water sports, spa treatments, bowling, dog sledging, snowboarding, skiing, the variety is endless.

Check out places like St. Blasien (monastery), Feldberg (the highest mountain) and of course Freiburg. This is one of the sunniest cities in Germany. Anyone strolling through the carefully restored centre might think they were by the Mediterranean rather than in Germany. And the high rate of sunshine has made possible innovations in the area of solar technology, for which Freiburg has been internationally renowned for years.
Visitors to Freiburg can expect to find inviting street cafés, bustling narrow lanes and a Mediterranean ambience. Although the city has 220,000 residents, making it the fourth largest in the state of Baden-Württemberg, it does not feel like a big city. The central cathedral square is a good place to begin exploring the old town. Freiburg Munster, or cathedral is the city's landmark. Work on the red sandstone building was started around 1200 and completed in 1513. Its 116 meter-high tower gives a magnificent view of the surrounding area. The cathedral is one of the most important Gothic buildings in Germany. The square is home to a weekday market offering works of art and regional produce.

Further afield you can have wonderful day trips to places like Lake Constance, Rheinfall bei Schaffhausen, or even Colmar and the Alsace! It really is a wonderful centre for a holiday any time of year.
