Further details indoors:
Its design entails an internal stairway which leads to the second floor. In maintaining balance for an outdoor covered terrace, an indoor sun room was created on the opposing side of the home.

Internally the spaciousness of this home allows for a comfortable stay for one or for many. During the restoration every convenience was considered while developing the charm and comfort of an elegant home in the country.

Antique tiles adorn the ground floor while oak warms the floor above. Unique paint finishes embellish all the rooms accenting the grand ceiling beams throughout the house. Custom made windows and doors complete each room.

La Cucina" is wonderfully cook-friendly. The custom built oak cabinets are imported from England. The marbletop counter surface and the free standing island both include Belfast sinks. The appliances include a large Subzero refrigerator, a French Cornue gas/electric stove with a double oven and a dishwasher. There is also a working fireplace for a barbecue. Guests will find Le Mandorelle olive oil available for their use during their stay. Large French doors lead to the conservatory.

The master bedroom is spacious and has a super king size bed (2x2m). It also has a well stocked bookcase for those who need extra reading material. Off the bedroom leading to the bath is a dressing room that has wall-to-wall maple veneer custom-made cabinets from England. The master bathroom is tiled with Portuguese ceramic tiles. There are built-in cupboards on either side of the sink. There is also a separate shower stall. The toilet and bidet are hidden behind "Trompe l'Oeil" doors. The master bedroom has a fireplace, the dressing room has wall-to-wall maple veneer custom-made cabinets from England.

The first guest bedroom has custom-made, handpainted cupboards and a bathroom with Spanish tiles, Moroccan shower, sink, bidet and toilet. The second bedroom has custom made hand painted cupboards and a bathroom with a Victorian shower, sink, bidet and toilet. There is a lovely view of Todi from the bedroom window.

In 2007 a new two story independent guest house was constructed with two bedrooms, attached baths, a dining/living room with kitchenette, a "palestra" (exercise room) and wine storage room were completed. A well known artist has painted the addition in wonderful earth tones that complimented the construction as well as the furnishings. The new addition includes air conditioning and the exercise room has an excellent tread mill as well as other equipment for exercising.

The new guest house is a wonderful complement to the existing villa and has spectacular views of Todi from every window. The first bedroom in the guest house has two single beds that can be pushed together to have a large king sized bed or kept separately as desired. The larger of the two bedrooms in the guest house has two "maxi single" beds of 120 cm each. Both bathrooms in the guest house are ceramic tiles with the latest in modern fixtures.

The stairs lead you from the ground floor down to the new living room and dining room. This very comfortable living room has direct TV, wireless access as well as a lovely fireplace. The dining area includes a kitchenette that can be used for preparing light meals - it has a fridge, a microwave, a stove top as well as a sink.

Further details outdoors:
After coming through an electrically operated wrought iron gate you descend down a short hill to the house. This gracious two story home was built using local stone. The roof is constructed from reclaimed tile in order to preserve its historic character. The style of design and building materials used are in harmony with all the existing structures.

The formal living room has a stone mantel imported from England. The walls have a unique textured finish. The flooring matches the "Fleur de Lys" tiles in the entrance hall and has a cobblestone border. There are French windows that offer a view of the veranda.

The lounge includes an 18th century fireplace. This is a wonderful room in which to kick back and relax. There is a full entertainment centre in this room with TV, stereo, tapedeck and CD. Off the Family Room is a guest bath. The sink and toilet are a gothic design imported from England. The wall tiles are a light brown glaze and the floor tiles are 18th century Florentine.

The walls in the formal dining room are finished with Trompe l'Oeil tenting. There is a terra cotta carpet boarder of 18th century ceramic tiles.

The conservatory, which is called a "Limonaia" in Italian, was used to keep lemon trees alive in the winter. It is now an ideal dining area if you want something more casual than the formal dining room. Off the conservatory is a marvellous herb garden which can be "farmed" by our guests for their cooking needs. This adds a special touch to anything prepared in the "Cucina".

The comforts of the home are enhanced by a beautiful swimming pool surrounded by a garden of roses, olives and grapes. A beautiful outdoor grill is perfect for grilling meat or fish and the wood fired oven is perfect for bread or pizza.

A new terrace connects the villa to the guest house and is a wonderful place to enjoy a drink at sunset. The pergola attached to the guesthouse is new in 2007and will shortly be covered by lovely wisteria.

The garage, to house garden and vineyard equipment, and the cantina for producing wine are an important addition in bringing Le Mandorelle back to the farming complex it was for hundreds of years.

The vineyard has been expanded to include Sagrantino, San Giovese and Merlot grapes. Production will soon exceed 1000 bottles per year. The olive orchard has also been expanded to 200 olive trees producing in excess of 200 kilos of oil per year. The vineyard with the Casa del Prete ruins in the background is part of the Le Mandorelle complex.

The vegetable garden offers our guests seasonal fresh home grown vegetables through out the summer. Enjoy anything you find that is ripe.

Further details

Rob and Janina Cushman, a couple from Hilton Head, South Carolina acquired Le Mandorelle in early 2000, and subsequently purchased all the surrounding property to create a 12-acre farm with a vineyard and olive orchard.

We want to create a unique experience for anyone who visits Le Mandorelle and have prepared a booklet that introduces you to all the local activities, off the beaten track excursions, as well as excellent restaurants in the surrounding countryside.

Traditional Umbrian meals can be prepared at home by a local cook if desired.
