Home description

Casa della Rovere is a lovely, traditional house, built with local grey stone. It is situated on the edge of a hill, hidden behind the village square. Although more than a hundred years old, the interior has been restored and transformed into a comfortable home, equipped with everything you need.

The house is a perfect holiday home for two or three people. Inside you will find a kitchen/dining room, a living room, bathroom and a bedroom upstairs. Outside there is a large private terrace (120 m2) at your disposal. It has a wonderful panoramic view over the Umbrian hills to Todi, with the Sibellini Mountains in the distance.
So far, Acqualoreto is untouched by tourism. This is why this place is ideal for people that want to feel Italian among the Italians, love nature and tranquility. It is also a perfect and centrally located base for a vast range of sports activities or a visit to one of the the many nearby medieval cities and historic places, like Assisi with its double church of Saint Francis, the lively student city of Perugia or Orvieto with its majestic cathedral. A daytrip to Rome or Florence is also possible.

SPECIAL OFFER FOR an EARLY DEAL: 10% DISCOUNT ON THE RENTAL RATES IF YOU BOOK BEFORE 1 MARCH 2010 AND STAY IN APRIL, MAY OR JUNE.

The Umbria region

Around Acqualoreto you will find a typical Umbrian landscape of fields, olive groves and vineyards, but also the oak forests from which Casa della Rovere derived its name.
Of course you can enjoy the village life in Acqualoreto, or relax and admire the view from the terrace with a glass of good wine or an Italian espresso from the bar across the road. But the countryside around Casa della Rovere will also entice you to enjoy the many activities and adventures, be it nature, culture or food.

Activities:
Walking & hiking: there are many signposted routes in the vicinity of Todi, the Tiber nature reserve and Lake Corbara. Also long distance hikes like the famous Saint Francis walkway from Assisi to Rome.
Golf: there are three golf courses (9 en 18 holes) near Perugia (50 km)
Swimming: open air swimming pools in the sports centres in Todi Pontenaia (13 km) and in Civitella del Lago (10 km). Beaches at Bolsena Lake and Trasimeno Lake, for instance near Passignano and San Feliciano. The sea is a 2 hour drive from the house.

Cultural
Cities: Umbria has many beautiful medieval cities that are well worth visiting, often walled and positioned on top of a hill. Closeby are Orvieto with its magnificent cathedral, Perugia and Assisi, the city of Saint Francis and its famous double church with frescoes from the Giotto School. Todi has many medieval buildings in the central square. There are also the medieval cities like Gubbio, Spoleto, Terni, Bevagna and Montefalco. If you want something older still, you can also visit the remains of the Roman city of Carsulae or the archaeological site with petrified trees in Dunarobba (21 km) that are 2 million years old.

Museums: there are many museums in historic buildings with art collections and archaeological finds.
Events: during the year there are many festivals. Most historic festivals date back to the Middle Ages. But there are also music festivals such as the famous Umbria Jazz Festival, stage and film festivals and culinary events like the Perugia chocolate festival each October.
In addition, every village has its own annual festival or 'sagra' with music, food and dancing.

Todi / Acqualoreto area

Acqualoreto is ideally located on a hilltop in the southwest of Umbria (central Italy) between Todi and Orvieto. The origins of this small fortified village date from the 10th century. During the Middle Ages it was part of a series of castles and towers to defend the city of Todi and the Tiber river.

In the valley below the Tiber River flows into the Corbara Lake. The surrounding area is a protected, but free accessible, nature reserve. Other lakes in the area are Lago Trasimeno and Lago di Bolsena. The sea on the east or west coast is a two hour drive.

Shopping
In the town square opposite the house you'll find the local bar and a small, but excellent, restaurant, 'La Cruccola'. The village has no shops, but mobile shopkeepers visit the town with little vans (bread, fruit & vegetables, fish, flowers). The closest CONAD supermarket is in Collelungo, a 5 minute drive. The owner speaks English reasonable and sings when cutting the meat. The supermarket also offers internet access. There is also a small supermarket in Morre, a 5 minutes drive as well. A bigger supermarket and all the other shops you need are in Todi, 15 minutes away.
