Casa Canonica is a recently built house with traditional old oak-beamed Umbrian stone. Standing on the Hills of Todi, in the Tiber valley natural park, it lies at the center of one of Italy's areas of greatest historical, artistic and cultural interest, and outstanding natural beauty.

The House:

Casa Canonica offers something for the whole family : playroom in the basement with football table and tennis(ping-pong) table , lazy afternoons in the comfortable shade of the pergola area, relax by pool, hide in the olive grove. Casa Canonica is a family home from home. We have designed to suit our family and we hope it will be good for yours too!

The Pool:

Follow the garden path to the pool area and enjoy the views from the pool lounge area or sleep in the hammock while the kids enjoy the swings few steps away within olive trees.

The Surroundings:

Monte Castello di Vibio, Spoleto, Perugia, Orvieto, Gubbio, Fonti del Clitumno, Lago Trasimeno, Lago di Corbara e Deruta are all within 45 minutes drive. A 90 minutes drive will take you to the center of Rome.

Casa Canonica:

Upstairs there is an en-suite double room, a nice bedroom with 3 single beds (for kids!) and a third double bedroom that has its own access from the external travertino steps, and a second fireplace.

There is fourth bedroom on the ground floor with its own beautiful pergola, can easily be used as either two single beds or one double bed - just tell us before you arrive. If you need a baby bed, let us know in advance.

We have one family bathroom with bath tub and separate shower on the first floor (+ the en suite), a nice bathroom on the ground floor with a great shower and a fourth bathroom in the basement next to the laundry.

The large kitchen on the ground floor is the heart of the house .There is also a big fireplace for the winter times.

A stone / bricks built BBQ area just outside the kitchen is the perfect complement to long summer Al fresco lunches and dinners.

The Umbria region

CANONICA is often referred to as the Beverly Hills of Todi thanks to it southerly exposure, wonderful views and proximity to many historic sites.

TODI, according to legend was built by Hercules, grew as a border city (Todi comes from Tutere = border) of the Etruscan dominions and was finally conquered by the Romans in 217BC.

The city flourished in the 12th and 13th centuries as a 40,000 inhabitants powerful and independent Comune. It was annexed to the Papal States in 1367 and remained part of the Church dominion until the unification of Italy in 1861.

The Ideal City

At the beginning of the 90's, the University of Kentucky, based on a series of qualitative factors, elected Todi the “Ideal City”, a place in which nature and man, history and tradition combined to a point of world-wide excellence. Todi was unexpectedly chosen as the most livable city in the world.

"Beautiful villa in one of the most magnificent places in Italy!"

After having a few difficulties in finding Casa Canonica (there is a 'Canonica' the other side of Orvieto) we were thrilled with the accommodation we had booked. The views were panoramic and took in most of what the beautiful valleys around Todi have to offer - this is a view you will not tire of! Casa Canonica is a new house but built in a traditional style and in a way to maximise the setting and the view. The caretakers, Marcello and Fanny were wonderful in their welcome and attention to detail - it was so nice to receive such a warm welcome from them! We actually found it difficult to wander too far from the house as it was so beautiful. We also enjoyed using the pool each day, even though the weather wasn't that hot! Todi was our pick of the three local hilled towns (Orvieto, Spoleto and Todi) and we enjoyed heading up there for walks, coffee, lunch or dinner! Casa Canonica is a place that we will definitely come back to - so quiet, so beautiful and so relaxing! We would definitely recommend this accommodation to people who are looking for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting.
