Silverwood is a modern, spacious, well-equipped Scandinavian style lodge with the added benefits of free Wi-fi and a cosy woodburning stove for those cooler evenings. It is set in a very peaceful location on the edge of the Lake District National Park, just 4 miles from the stunning scenery around Ullswater and with easy access to the market town of Penrith, the M6 and the rest of the Lake District, including the major attractions around Keswick, Grasmere and Ambleside. There are bus routes close by and two local pubs serving home cooked food and real ale are within easy walking distance.
It is an ideal base for couples, smaller families, keen walkers wanting to relax and enjoy breath-taking views on foot or on a Lake cruise, or sample the many outdoor activities on offer in this beautiful area. All the lodges are privately owned in a quiet, peaceful area and the lodge is therefore unsuitable for adult groups wanting to party/make lots of noise!
We offer a welcome tray with biscuits and we provide some of those useful “necessities” like washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, salt, pepper, foil and clingfilm so you don't have to bring it all with you!! There are lots of activity leaflets in the lodge giving ideas on things to do for all ages and abilities come rain or shine and information on local services to help you get the most from your stay.
We welcome your comments in our visitors book, which has many excellent reviews from new and returning guests over the last 5 years and we hope you will add your own reviews on this web site as well.

Cumbria is home to countless areas of outstanding natural beauty including the Lake District and the more peaceful Eden Valley and offers a wealth of activities and attractions all year round.
Choose from exciting mountain and water sports, including rock climbing, abseiling, mountain biking, kayaking and sailing to fell walking, golf and horseriding. If you prefer there are more leisurely activities including visits to stately homes, gardens, wildlife centres, theatre trips and lakes cruises, appealing to all ages and abilities.
As well as the more popular tourist destinations, such as Keswick, Grasmere and Ambleside there are many beautiful villages and market towns with cafes, shops selling local Cumbrian fayre as well as the essential mainstream shops.
Ullswater, known as the most romantic Lake in the Lake District, curves gently through 8 miles of stunning mountain scenery and although a popular destination for tourists still manages to retain a feeling of peace and tranquillity.
Take a trip down the lake on the Ullswater steamer from Pooley bridge to Glenridding, visit Rheged discovery centre 2 miles from Penrith, a good wet weather option, with cinema, play area, restaurants and shopping. A few miles down the main lake road is the National Trust's Aira force with waterfalls and beautiful woodland walks. For the summer months, just 2 miles from the lodge is the pretty Cumbrian village of Askham with a heated outdoor swimming pool a village store, cafe, Lowther castle nearby and walks by the river or onto the fell with spectacular views of Ullswater.
Walk along the eastern shore of Ullswater from Howtown to Glenridding or Patterdale, taking in the stunning scenery. Take a spectacular drive from Glenridding over Kirkstone pass to the southern Lakes. Try a range of watersports from sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, boating, cruising and fishing, the choice is yours. There are a good range of facilities in and around Penrith, including a Leisure centre with indoor swimming pool, climbing wall, sports hall and cafe, a playpark and golf nearby as well as a variety of shops, cafes and pubs and restaurants catering for all tastes.
The surrounding valleys and mountain ranges are host to a huge variety of walks from easy strolls to more strenuous fell walking, with opportunities for rock climbing, abseiling, cycling and horseriding amongst many other activities on offer throughout Cumbria. There are traditional villages and market towns selling local Cumbrian produce and crafts, with a wide range of local pubs, cafes and restaurants offering renowned Cumbrian hospitality.
