The West Country region

Boscastle is within an area of outstanding natural beauty, with breathtaking coastal scenery and endless walking opportunities, both coastal and inland. Good beaches for surfing, sand and rockpools are found all along this stretch of coast. Tintagel (with its Arthurian legends and castle) and Port Isaac (home to Doc Martin) are only a short drive away

Boscastle is rightly famous for its beautiful harbour setting, picturesque cottages and gentle ambiance of a Cornish fishing village. It is both a friendly 'locals' village and a lovely place to stay, with plenty of shops, restaurants, a garage - and excellent pubs that have a great reputation.

The National Trust own large areas around the village that enable free access for walks around the coastal headlands and inland up the beautiuful Valency Valley.

Four old churches (including Thomas Hardy's St Juliots) are well worth a visit.

Further afield the Camel Trail (cycle track on an old railway) is a great bike ride alongside the estuary to Padstow

There is so much more to explore: Bodmin Moor with Jamaica Inn; the Eden Project; the Bodmin steam railway; castles, museums and historic houses are all within easy striking distance

Many thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed Sharrocks Cottage. Re the electric shower, our area has had low water-pressure problems recently so we are getting a plumber on to it. The immersion-heated bath shower can be used instead - in fact just as good!
