The Cornwall region

The north of Cornwall has one of Europe's most spectacular coastlines. The highest cliffs in England, golden sandy beaches, some of the finest coastal walking in the world and fishing villages are all to be found along this stretch of coast. Wildlife abounds with dolphins, seals, otters and many varieties of seabirds. In summer the beaches are not as crowded as elsewhere in Cornwall; spring is a riot of colour on the cliffs; autumn's warm seas are a surfers paradise; and winter shows Cornwall at its most dramatic with crisp sunny days and massive Atlantic rollers pounding the coast.

Inland are the moors of Bodmin and Dartmoor with superb walking, rocky tors, stone circles, dolmens and great pubs. Within easy driving distance lie the internationally known attractions of Newquay, St. Ives, Land's End, St. Michael's Mount and the Eden Project.

Walkers, rock climbers, surfers and bodyboarders will find the area a paradise, boating and fishing opportunities of all types abound and there is no shortage of golf courses, many in attractive coastal locations.

Just a few minutes walk from Guinevere lies one of Britain's most famous attractions, Tintagel Castle. Sited on a rocky promontory the atmospheric ruins easily conjure up images of the Uther Pendragon, Igraine and Arthur. The whole area is steeped in Arthurian legend and there are many sites to visit.

Within walking distance or a short drive away are the beautiful beaches of Bossiney Haven and Trebarwith. The former is sheltered and the turquoise waters here are ideal for bathers; the latter receives the full force of the Atlantic, is fantastic for surfing and bodyboarding and has a superbly located pub on the cliffs overlooking the beach. Internationally famous surfing beaches lie to the north around the attractive Victorian resort of Bude and to the south at Polzeath.

Just north of Tintagel, and walkable along one of the very best sections of the South West Coast Path, lies beautiful Boscastle, with its tiny houses and secluded harbour; to the south lie the fishing villages of Port Gaverne, Port Quin and Port Isaac (home of the TV series 'Doc Martin'). Slightly further is the Camel estuary with Rock, holiday resort of the rich and famous, and Padstow with its collection of Rick Stein's restaurants.

Walkable again from Tintagel are the superb waterfall at St Nectan's Glen and the attractive Rocky Valley with its gorge and mysterious rock carvings. Within a few minutes drive the remote beaches of The Strangles and Tregardock are accessible to walkers which you may be lucky enough to have entirely to yourselves even in the summer.

"Beautiful cottage in ideal location"

The cottage was in the perfect location in middle of tintagel but also private and quiet which was ideal,The cottage was beautiful with lovely decor and very clean, comfortable sofas and a lovely bed so all in all made us feel very relaxed.Great to have two wcs and the washing machine and tumble dryer were very handy. Neighbours were lovely and once we knew how gates worked had no problem.Only downside with gates was the online shopping vans find them tricky.Nik and Linda were very helpful with queries and left a lovely welcoming card which was a nice touch.

"Very nice stay"

We had a lovely stay at Guinevere, the cottage itself is very beautiful and quite large inside. The decor is nice inside, and very homely. Tintagel is nice, but once you have done the castle there isn't massive amounts to do, although it is a good place to base yourself to see nearby places of Port Issac and Polzeath, whilst having some little local shops to find food nearby. It was nice to have some DVD's available in the cottage to watch on rainy days, and the cottage generally had everything we needed. A few small issues, a) there isn't a shower which wasn't made clear to us before we arrived. There is shower taps on the bath, but the bath is inset into the sloping ceiling, and my boyfriend is 6'3" and I am 5'1", and neither of us could stand up and have a shower, so had to have baths, which didn't bother us, but if you are the type of person that only likes showers, it isn't for you. b) we got shouted at by some local residents because we didn't open the gate in the proper way, which annoyed us a bit, but as long as you use the remote to open the gate it's fine! Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend to friends and family.

We are glad that you had a lovely stay and thank you for your kind comments. (a) We take great care to ensure our description of Guinevere accurately describes the bathroom facilities but we are sorry if you were disappointed not to find a shower. (b) We supply extensive arrival information, complete with maps and photographs of important road junctions plus other relevant details, that include specific instructions on the operation of the security gates, making it clear that the proper way to open both sides of the gate is with the remote control. Nevertheless, we are sorry that you had problems with other residents. We hope you will stay at Guinevere again one day and appreciate your recommendation.
