The Rhone / French Alps / Savoie region
The Savoie Region of France is a mecca for skiers of all abilities from across Europe. Being the highest resort in Europe the one thing that Tignes is guaranteed is good snow. The season starts earlier and finishes later than most other resorts. According to 'The good Ski & Snowboarding Guide 2005' Tignes is one of only two ski areas in France listed as 'Snow-sure resorts'. Tignes skiing is a combination of the pistes of Tignes and Val D'Isere which combine to make up the L’Espace Killy. There are 300km of pistes: 20 green runs, 60 blues, 35 reds and 16 blacks, plus 44 km of cross country skiing, 2 terrain parks, 2 glaciers and 90 ski lifts including 2 high speed underground trains (funicular railways).
It offers the largest area of on piste skiing in Europe as well as some of the most extensive off piste skiing making Tignes one of Europe's premier resorts. The majority of runs are wide and therefore suitable for all levels of skiers or boarder with 5 free lifts for beginners. There are plenty of snow sports schools and equipment hire shops for tuition or hire. Boarders are well catered for as there are several very well constructed snow parks.
Apart from skiers, the region plays host to mountaineers, hill walkers, water sports enthusiasts, families and touring parties.
Tignes / Val Claret area
Tignes shares the world famous L'Espace Killy ski area with its neighbour Val D'Isere but does not charge the same prices making it very attractive to families or those on a budget.
The ski resort Tignes comprises 5 Villages; Val Claret (the higest), Tignes le Lac, Le Lavachet, Tignes Les Boisses and Tignes-les-Brévières. Val Claret is a modern resort with varied and plentiful amenities. These include a professional childcare, cinema, supermarket, ski shops, ski hire, ski/snowboarding schools, medical centre, pharmacy, spa, ample car parking, ATM's, great apre ski, nightclubs, and a wonderful mix of restaurants to cater for all tastes and ages.
Once you reach the resort travelling within it is very easy as there is a very efficient system of buses known as the “Navette”. These run free of charge from Tignes Les Boisse, down by the dam to Tignes Le Lac every 30 minutes from 8:45am to 6:45pm as well as from Le Lac via Le Lavachet to Val Claret, starting hourly from 6.30am to 8:30am and then from 8:30 to 6:30 every 30 minutes and then again hourly from 8:30pm to Midnight. There is also a chargeable bus service between Tignes Le Boisse and Val D’Isere but be warned if you get stuck over there with your skis after 5:30pm you will end up catching a taxi back!

Tignes can be accessed easily throughout the year via various forms of transport. The alps are primarily served by five airports; Lyon, Grenoble, Geneva Chambéry and Turin all of which have regular flights from the UK and Ireland. Carriers to these destinations include, Easyjet, Aer Lingus, Ryanair, Flybe, bmibaby, Thompson Fly and British Airways. Bourg St-Maurice train station is the nearest station to Tignes. This is served at all times of the year by French mainline services. Eurostar also runs a service known as the 'Snow Train' at weekends throughout the winter season that is direct from London. Road access to the Tarentaise region is remarkably good thanks to the 1992 Albertville Olympic games, especially from Chambéry and Lyon. Transfers from these Airports can be made entirely on motorways as far as Moûtiers (36 miles from Tignes) and then on roads that have been widened to accommodate the hundreds of buses that use them throughout the year.

The accommodation was fully refurbished to a very high standard as recently as December '08. Accommodation is made up of a double bedroom, bunk room, toilet, bathroom with shower, kitchen and large living room with a south facing balcony.
This centrally heated apartment is very comfortable and can easily cater for up to 6 persons. There is a double bed in the main bedroom, a bunk bed in the second bedroom and a double sofa bed in the living room.
The apartment is new to the rental market and comes fully furnished with all equipment as new. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric hob, dishwasher, fridge, toaster, kettle, coffee maker with plenty of cutlery, crockery and glasses. Other features include a 26" Flat screen TV, satellite TV channels, hairdryer, iron, ironing board. Clean bed linen and towels are included in the price.

The apartment is fantastic. It was our first self catering ski holiday and it wont be our last. The owners were so helpful and accommodating. After a great day on the slopes it was great to return to a warm, cosy comfortable apartment. The apartment is of an exceptional standard and is so well equipped you really do not want for anything. This apartment is great, very comfortable, very cosy and very well designed. We were 5 girls and had a superb trip. Fantastic location - easy walk to village centre 100 yd and 200 yd walk to put your skis on and ski to the nearest lifts. Also very close to supermarket, bars, ski rental etc. Would definitely recommend and would return to this apartment. We loved this place. Dave & Lisa were very helpful. The apartment was excellent, great location and very well kitted out. Even though there were 6 of us and a lot of gear it was absolutely fine. Just returned from a fantastic weeks skiing, which is added to by superb accommodation. The apartment is very well appointed, I partically liked slouching on the comfy sofa after a long day on the slopes. This is the best equipped apartment I have stayed in,( loads of decent size pots and pans, decent knifes,and proper size cups). Large bathroom with modern full size shower,(as much hot water as you can use). Great views across to Tignes Le Lac This apartment is on the sixth floor about 15' from the lift, you push button 6 in the lift anyway.
