The Lombardy / Lake Garda Area
Lake Garda (Italian Lago di Garda or Benaco) is the largest lake in Italy. It is located in Northern Italy, about half-way between Venice and Milan. It is in an alpine region and was formed by glaciers at the end of the last ice age. The lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona (to the south-east), Brescia (south-west), and Trentino region (north). The lake is a major tourist destination, with a number of hotels and resorts along its shore.
Lake Garda has a unique micro-climate and Tignale in particular, being higher up, is lovely and cool in the summer (relatively speaking!) The temperatures in summer range between 28 and 32 degrees, usually.
Tignale area
Tignale, extending from the lake up to Mt Denervo's 1,500 metres, has a population of 1,300 or so living in 6 separate hamlets. Each is attractive in its own right, a magical charm that casts a spell in every season.
In Piovere, the road from Muslone joins the old mule-track that climbs up from San Giacomo di Gargnano through terraces of olive trees and is fl anked by an endless line of dry stone walls. The little square in front of the church of San Marco offers one of the most delightful views of Lake Garda.
On the way to Aer along the lower Garda road is Val dei canài, with little waterfalls and pools of crystal-clear water. Together with Oldesio and Gardola, Piovere is one of the sanctuaries of the spiedo (roast on the spit), prepared in the traditional Brescian manner.
Gardola, the main town, has some good hotels, as well as apartments to rent, restaurants, shops, tennis courts and swimming-pools.
There are also easy walks to Aer and Prabione, and more demanding routes for hikers or mountain-bikers along Vione valley, to Terzanèch, Piemp, Passo d'Ere, Ca di Natone and Passo Puria. A free shuttle bus service links the villages with the beach at Pra de la Fam, where there are surfboarding and sailing facilities.
In Prabione is the Park Visitors' Centre, which is equipped to provide an understanding of the history and geography of the North Garda area - open every day except Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.. On a spur of rock on Mt Cas stands the sanctuary of Montecastello, the high altar of which is the work of the Boscaì master craftsmen. There are also frescoes from the school of Giotto, four medallions on copper attributed to Palma the Younger, and canvas paintings by Celesti and Bertanza.
Prabione is the point of connection with Tremosine along the Tignalga, the main road of ups and downs leading to Polzone. A tough but exciting path is the Puntesèl, which follows the deep chasm of the river Campione as far as Cadignano and Sermerio. Past Polzone, where the Alpe del Garda Cooperative Society has its dairy, the road leads on to Vesio, Voltino and Limone, leaving Voiandes and Ustecchio to one side.
There is a bus service from Tignale down to the lake.

Further details indoors: The main bedroom is downstairs and has twin beds and a wall safe. This room is ideal for children or adults. The second bedroom area is on a spacious, open gallery/mezzanine over the living area, and has a double bed. This area is perfect for adults.
There is also a sofabed in the living area providing additional sleeping accommodation.
The kitchen is fully equipped and provides everything you need for a self-catering Lake Garda holiday in a home from home atmosphere.
Further details outdoors: The residence has an onsite mini-market for basic groceries and a bar/restaurant so you can enjoy breakfast by the pool. There is a hot tub, children's play area, large pool and sunbathing area in beautiful, unspoilt scenery. There are dozens of walking trails nearby and mountain bikes are available to rent onsite.
Close to the residence, about a 3km drive, is the town of Tignale, which has a bank, restaurants and pizzerias, post office, shops and offices.
The shores of Lake Garda are just 12 km drive.
