Home description

Come and enjoy this wonderful apartment in Lanzarote at the very popular holiday resort of Club las Calas.

Club las Calas is a large resort consisting of 145 apartments and is split into four areas with four swimming pools, two restaurants and bars offering live entertainment and are great value for money. The communal gardens and the pool areas at Las Calas are very well maintained and provide a safe and secure, family friendly destination. All the staff on-site are very professional and friendly and many of our guests come back year after year for that reason alone.

In addition to the accommodation, our guests have access to the onsite leisure centre, with a kids' club, gym, sauna, squash court, table tennis and ball parks. There is an internet cafe for those who wish to log on to the internet during their stay.

The resort is situated just over half a mile (1km) from the main beach with its many shops, restaurants, bar and night clubs and just over a mile (3km) from the harbour and Old Town of Puerto del Carmen. The resort is on a hill side so we do not recommend this for those with walking difficulties.

Recently refurbished to a high standard, the apartment is very comfortable, light and bright with open plan living area, a separate bedroom and a bathroom and it overlooks the pool area.

The Lanzarote region

Situated only 70 miles from the African coast lies Lanzarote, the most easterly of the Canary Islands. 37 miles long and 12 miles wide, Lanzarote is the fourth largest island in the canaries. Daytime temperatures range from approx 21°c in January to 29°c in August with an annual rainfall of just 140mm.

The Canary Islands are of volcanic origin to which Lanzarote is no exception. Described as a 'Lunar Landscape', Lanzarote resembles an other-worldly appearance due to eruptions in the 18th and 19th century where large parts of its surface is covered with ashes and solidified lava. These eruptions have left stunning volcanic features such as the Atlantida Tunnel, the longest volcanic Tunnel in the world at over 7km in length. Lanzarote, although Volcanic, has in contrast several white beaches such as Playa Blanca and Papagayo.

The inhabitants of Lanzarote have gone to great lengths to cultivate the land and in the region of Geria you will find Vineyards between the volcanic craters.

Once destroyed by pirates, the former ancient capital of Lanzarote, Teguise, has proudly preserved its 500 year history. With its restored palaces and stately homes and its dominating castle, Castillo de Santa Barbara, Teguise offers an escape from the bustle of the city.

Plenty of opportunities for shopping and the famous Sunday outdoor market make Teguise a not be be missed location during your stay.

Arrecife, the island's actual capital once defended itself from pirates by the two great fortresses, San Gabriel and San José. The 15th century fortress Castillo de San Gabriel, situated on a small island is connected to Arrecife by a draw-bridge and yet another castle Castillo de San Juan, another of Arrecife's attractions boasts the towns Museum of Contemporary Art.

Timanfaya National Park, destroyed by frequent eruptions between 1730-1736 and again in 1824, provides a landscape that draws visitors and biological researchers to a wide variety of geological phenomena and 180 different plant species. A trip to the park is a must.

Tias area

Puerto del Carmen is the biggest and the busiest of the four main tourist areas on Lanzarote and can be found at the central, southern part of the island. It is spread along over 6 km of golden sandy beaches - all flying the important Blue Flag. The surrounding waters are considered to be some of the most tranquil in the Canary Islands and are excellent for swimming and other water sports.

While for some Puerto del Carmen means visiting The Strip with its wide range of restaurants, bars, entertainment and nightlife, if this is not for you, Puerto del Carmen and Club las Calas still has plenty to offer and is a great base for those looking for a quiet holiday, sitting on the beach or around the pool and relaxing. The quaint and peaceful Old Town includes the harbour and docks, Puerto Tinosa, and is a great break away from the full on entertainment in the New Town. It is also the area where the "better" restaurants are and can be reached in about 20 minutes by foot from Las Calas.

If you want to get away from the beach or the pool for some retail therapy, Puerto del Carmen offers some great shopping opportunities. Whether you want to look at the tourist offerings of the main Beach Avenue or fancy something a bit more upmarket in the new Biosfera shopping complex., you will find everything duty free electronics equipment, local arts and crafts through to luxury designer clothes and shoes.

And choosing where to eat every evening will not be a problem. There are over 100 restaurants alone on the Avenida de Las Playas.

Among the major events that take place in Puerto del Carmen are the Carnival Parade (Saturday, 28 February 2009), Ironman (May), Puerto del Carmen Triathlon – qualifier for the Spanish Championship (June), Festival of Our Lady of Carmen (end of July), and tennis championships at both Fariones Sports Club and Match Point Club.

Some of the reasons the resort is so successful is the lack of high rise buildings, good all year round weather and Lanzarote on a whole is a very clean Island.

How to get there

Arrecife airport on the island of Lanzarote is served by a number of airlines from around Europe.

Charter flights to Lanzarote are available on Thursdays from all major and many regional airports from the UK, although at some of the smaller airports, flights are only available in high season (April/May to October). Prices can vary considerably and it is worth “shopping around”, either by telephone, on the Internet or through a travel agent.

Direct scheduled British Airways flights are available from London Gatwick, from which airport budget airline easyJet now also operates direct services to Lanzarote.

There are also scheduled flights from London Heathrow and a number of other UK and Irish airports, although these flights operate via Madrid.

Once you have landed, we would recommend that you take a taxi directly to the resort or hire a car. Mini-bus transport can be booked through us if you wish.

By taxi:

This is undoubtedly the simplest way of getting to the resort and is relatively inexpensive. There is a taxi rank immediately outside the Arrivals Hall on the lower level of the airport and taxis are usually in plentiful supply, even on Thursdays. Almost all of the taxi drivers know where the resort is located.

The single journey costs 8-10 Euros (with average luggage) and takes around 15 minutes.

By hire car (or private car):

Since the new airport terminal building opened, the Policia Local and Guardia Civil have been increasingly strict about unauthorised parking on the airport site. All hire car operators must now park their vehicles in the appropriate spaces within the official airport car park and owners of private cars are strongly advised to do the same. If you are collecting a car on arrival, therefore, you may expect to find it in the official car park.

From the airport follow signs for Yaiza/Puerto del Carmen (LZ2). Take the Puerto del Carmen exit and stay on this road (LZ40) passing the petrol station on each side, continue following signs for puerto del Carmen. Take the 3rd exit signed Puerto del Carmen(approx 4.5km) At the roundabout go straight over following signs for Puerto del Carmen still. Turn left into calle togio. At the roundabout turn right into calle garajonay. Take the next right into Calle Guayadeque and the resort reception is on the right hand side.

Full directions to the resort by car will be provided at the time of booking.
