The West Country / Devon region
On the coast of Devon's South Hams, the lovely landscape includes creeks and estuaries, woods and walks. The medieval village of Thurlestone is a delightful step back in time with a small main street, village pub shop and church then a descent to the beach. Just before the beach is Thurlestone's famous golf course. Thurlestone is within easy walking distance of 4 long sandy beaches. The rolling waves are ideal for Surfing, and the beaches are the best place to top up a tan.
6 Miles from Thurlestone is the Sailing town of Salcombe. Salcombe is famed for it’s Regatta that takes place in August every year. It has the best Ice Cream shop, and Chip shop in the South Hams, but that’s only our opinion.
Kingsbridge, a fantastically Picturesque town is a mere 4 miles away. It has a wide variety of shops, including Delicatessens, art shops, book shops, restaurants, pubs, and the normal hotchpotch of Woolworths, Boots etc. Kingsbridge is also home to the nearest supermarket—Somerfields.
There are many interesting towns and villages around the area, including Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Slapton, Modbury, Dartmouth, Totnes and Plymouth.
Thurlestone area
The Village Inn serves a variety of Real ales, and fantastic food. A warm welcome will greet any visitors. Well behaved children are catered for, although if you are eating, then pre-booking is advisable.
The licensed village shop is nothing short of a lifesaver. Selling all the essentials you would expect. It is also a post office, and a paper shop.
The diving cove of Hope Cove is an easy 1 1/2 mile walk away. There are a number of places to eat and drink there, all offering a lovely welcome.
A similar distance, but unreachable by foot is the famous Burgh Island. This was apparently the favoured retreat of Agatha Christie, when she was in 'Writing mood'. Other well know visitors include King Edward and Wallis Simpson, Chirchill and Amy Johnson.
Thurlestone Golf Course is located right on the coast.
