Castelnou is a small village just a couple of mins up the road from our house and has been voted one of the prettiest villages in France. You can eat there or take a drink on the spectacular terrace. Take a tour of the chateau because the views from the top of the Chateau there are fantastic.
Thuir is a pretty little market town 5 mins away with some nice restaurants and an excellent market on Saturday.
Perpignan has a lovely old town with a canal running through it.With its mix of French and Catalan culture, Perpignan offers the best of both worlds
Collioure is a short drive away and is what St Tropez must have been like before the yachts arrived. www.collioure.com
The beaches are about 25 mins away from the house. There are lots to choose from but we tend to go to Saint-Cyprien-Plage for shops ice creams etc but go a mile or two north of there on the D81A. You can park at the side of the road and walk through the sand dunes onto miles of beach which is seldom too busy (but there are no facilities - shops etc there). On the other side of the road is a nature reserve which you can walk round
