The Isle of Wight region

The Isle of Wight is truly a beautiful place for either sailing or family holidays. The Island is one of the best places for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty with over half the Island being designated covering the south-west and north-west coastal areas including half the coastline and more particularly both the Hamstead and Tennyson Heritage Coast areas.

The Isle of Wight has a wealth of footpaths and bridleways and is reputed to have more footpaths per square mile than any other English county - from a 60 mile coastal path, to easy circular routes, and short town trails - there are over 500 miles of well maintained paths on an island that measures 23 by 15 miles.

The Island is an ideal place for a cycling holiday offering the cyclist dedicated cycleways - many following the course of disused railway lines, signed routes, miles of bridleways and quiet country lanes as an alternative to busy main roads. If you would like details of the Round the Island cycle route, please call Isle of Wight Tourism 01983 813818 and a route map will be sent out to you.

For the family there are two theme parks (Blackgang Chine and Robin Hill), sandy beaches on the south of the Island, pottery painting and the famous Alum Bay. Enough to keep the most active of families amused for weeks.

Special attractions include:

Carisbrooke Castle

Osborne House

Isle of Wight Steam Railway

Robin Hill Adventure Park

Blackgang Chine Theme Park

Alum Bay

Isle of Wight Lavendar Farm

Owl and Monkey Haven

Amazon World

Isle of Wight Zoo

Flamingo Park

Rare Breeds and Waterfowl Park

Planet Ice - Ice Rink

LA Bowl - Ten Pin Bowling

Thorness Bay

Thorness Bay is set in a quiet wooded area overlooking the Solent, with a short stroll to the private beach. It is ideally situated for the world renowned Cowes week in August. You can walk along the coastal path into Cowes town and watch the racing from the promenade.

Thorness Bay Holiday Park is open all year round with the Park activity season running from Easter to October.

Park facilities include an indoor pool* complex with slides, along with amusements and many indoor activities (including WIFI), and outside there are sports courts and adventurer playgrounds etc.

There is a huge entertainment program* for all ages, theme party nights, talent shows, games etc., local bands and cabaret nights. Or if you prefer you can sit on the boathouse restaurant deck and just relax with a drink enjoying the views over the Solent.

The Park also has a Parkmart shop* and a launderette*.

*All Park facilities operate from Easter to October only.

"Lovely Caravan"

Just got home from a short stay at The Salisbury
We found it very clean, nicely decorated well stocked withutensils and crockery.
Bedding was immaculate as was towels
We would like to thank Helen for providing the milk tea coffee sugar, after a 7 hour journey with 4 year twins and a 7 year old in the car the first thing I needed was a cup of tea.
Can't really comment on the park facilities has we didn't use them but it was kept clean and tidy.

"Nothing short of perfect"

Everything from the communications you get to the phone call the night before arrival. Happy to review that this place is simply great. The caravan itself is on a great pitch just a few minutes walk from the entertainment area.

Inside, you really can tell how well it is being managed. The bedrooms are all well equipped and the bedding clean and modern. The ensuite bathroom is a good size, nicely laid out and the shower was hot and powerful. The separate toilet is a nice touch.

The kitchen is large and I'd be happy to cook for the family in there. We didn't get to use it other than a single light bight but it looked very well equipped and everything was modern.

The front room is just as good, the TV having Sky HD is brilliant. The front room furniture is modern and again very clean.

So in summary - what a place. Everything is exceptionally very well looked after. The towels, bedding and furniture are very clean and of great quality and the place looks every bit as a good as it should.

Throw in the little bits on arrival like milk, coffee and washing up liquid and this is a caravan unlike many others. You won't be sorry if you choose to stay here.

"Spatious, clean and convenient to all amenities on the site, with a lovely view over the Solent."

The Salisbury is ideally located on the west of the island, not far from East Cowes port and an easy drive down to the south coast. It's well kept, comfortable and nicely decorated with everything in working order and all the basics needed for self-catering (only missing a coffee maker!). The site itself has plenty to offer, with lots of outdoor play equipment for children, a reasonable sized swimming pool and an amusement arcade, as well as an entertainment lounge which we didn't get round to using. If you don't want to cook, the food's reasonably priced and there's a nice walk down to the Solent from the restaurant. I'd certainly recommend it for families with smaller children for a relaxing break. Only thing - make sure you have the contact details of the owner. We turned up thinking we could get the keys from the main office, but it was shut and we had to track the owner's number down ourselves as it's not available on Trip Advisor. Otherwise, great.
