About this location
The Yorkshire region
Thorganby village sits in a charming valley in the Lincolnshire Wolds, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The fields surrounding Marris Cottage are farmed by the owners, with unspoilt views of grassland and arable fields. The area is wonderfully unspoilt and underpopulated, and is one of England's best kept secrets. The cottage was a former shepherd's bothy and retains some original features including an old range, which can still be used as an open fire.
The average rainfall per year is low (26 inches), making it an ideal place for walking, cycling and generally enjoying the great outdoors. There is good motorway access from the north and west.
Enjoying glorious views across rolling countryside and surrounded by quiet lanes, it is a haven for walkers and cyclists, being near the National Cycling Route. The Georgian town of Louth, Lincoln's cobbled streets and soaring cathedral, antique centres, bird reserves, farmers' markets and seaside resorts are all an easy drive. Shops are under 4 miles and the pub only half a mile away, with a nice walk along a farm footpath.

Clean, cosy, nice bedding and towels, loads of hot water, cute working range style open fire. A lane outside quiet enough for the children to skateboard and bike up and down and totally dog friendly so just right for us. Many thanks

"A comfortable and quaint cottage in a lovely rural setting"
We arrived late in the evening after travelling all day and being subjected to two long diversions. The key had been left accessible for us and on entering we found the cottage to be warm and welcoming. There were all of the expected facilities to make your stay comfortable and a bottle of wine and flowers sitting on the table in the kitchen as a nice welcoming touch. The bedrooms and ensuites were cosy, but it appeared as though these had only been superficially cleaned from the previous guests. The toilet in the master ensuite had certainly not been cleaned under the seat as it was stained and dirty. Due to the condition of the rest of the cottage we would like to think that this was a one off but it was disappointing nevertheless. We found the location to be quiet and tranquil with lovely views over fields of horses. Being located in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds it was centrally located for access to many of the areas attractions. We hope to be able to book the cottage again in the near future.
Running the bookings at Marris Cottage, I was naturally very upset to read the tripadvisor report referring to the unsatisfactory cleanliness. At the next changeover I personally supervised the cleaning operation and particularly scruntinised the loo seat. The conclusion was that the loo seat was 100% clean but due to it's age and somewhat tired appearance it may have given the impression of being dirty. We are due to refurbish the master bathroom in the winter and will be installing a shower. This may be a good time to replace the loo seat! I am sorry for any offence/distress caused and can assure our guests that good quality cleanliness is a priority.
