About this location

The Providenciales region

Turks and Caicos is a coral atoll and famous for its light sandy beaches and diving. A number of water sports operators offer a myriad of water sports including diving, snuba, fishing, sailing, parasailing, kiteboarding, stand up paddle boarding, water ski-ing, tubing, kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing, semi submarine, glass bottom boat and excursions to other islands to view interalia iguanas, flamingos and old plantation ruins.

In Provo, there are several sites of interest including Cheshire Hall ruins, Mariners Hill, The Hole, the Conch Farm.

Day trips could also be taken to other islands in the archipelago, for example, to see the caves of Middle Caicos, to see the flamingos and plantation ruins in North Caicos or to see the capital, Grand Turk with its museum and Salt Museum.

Thompson's Cove is on Providenciales, the main commercial and tourist centre. Provo has a large selection of bars and excellent restaurants (also for take away) , International/French, Italian, Japanese, Indian, Thai, Mexican and Morroccan.

For golfers, there is a beautiful 18 hole golf course and a miniature golf course both about 20 minutes drive from the villa.

For gamblers, there is a Casino about 15 minutes drive.

Thompson Cove

Thompson's Cove is an upscale residential area with a wonderful ambience in a very central location. The highest point in the Turks and Caicos Islands is on the eastern edge of Thompson's Cove. There is a canal shaped marina where some homeowners keep their boats.

There is a beautiful long quiet sandy beach which runs for miles and the villa is surrounded by tropical vegetation and fascinating birdlife. The beach is good for swimming and snorkeling and you can walk 5 minutes along the beach to 2 beach bars and restaurants. Birdwatching is also of interest as Night Herons nest in the surrounding vegetation and wander through the garden. Pelicans fish in the sea and Ospreys frequently fly over.

A selection of Supermarkets, liquor stores, shops, water sports/tour operators, fitness centres/gyms, beauty salons/spas, churches, cinema, beaches and historic sights are within 10 minutes drive. The Cheshire Hall Ruins are about 3 minutes drive away.

"Very nice beach house"

If you want privacy and a location that is off the beaten track this would be a good choice. Since Provo is a all island it is easy to get to where ever you want (with a rental car). … More

"Beautiful Escape"

Upon our arrival Pamela's friend Joy (who was awesome) met us at the airport. When we arrived at the house she reviewed some basic information with us and we were on our own. The previous guest… More

I am so glad these guests had a wonderful vacation. I was overseas and so sorry to have missed meeting them but I am delighted that Joy did a good job.

I actually bought the wine, chips and salsa referred to and put them in the house as a welcome gift. They were not left by previous guests.

I am sorry these guests could not set up the internet. For WiFi I have a Mobile Broadband USB Modem in the house. After this visit, I took it to the telephone company and they confirmed it was working. The technician set it up on a laptop in their office and I wrote down the set up procedure 'click by click'. I have typed these instructions out so that future guests can follow these.

In addition I have now set up a separate free WiFi system from my property closeby with a wireless extender which is giving a strong WiFi signal in the house.

The telephone company (about 5 minutes drive away) also has some computers that can be used for free internet access.

Hopefully now there should certainly be good internet coverage at Heron's Retreat for those who are not allowed to escape from their businesses etc. when relaxing in paradise!

"Fantastic Stay"

The house worked well for 2 couples. From the moment we drove up the view was spectacular. Pam met us at the airport and guided to the house. Her kindness and concern that we have a great week spoke volumes! The beach was great; you could spend your entire trip at the house and the beach, but the island has a lot to offer. Turtle Cove was a 5 minute drive, we had dinner there several nights! We never had a bad meal!
If you are looking for a clean, updated, comfortable and reasonable house to rent you just found it!
