Chalet / 3 bedrooms / sleeps 6
A traditional wooden mountain chalet set in beautiful surroundings that overlook Lake Geneva providing access to spectacular walks, rivers and lakes in the summer and excellent skiing in the winter. The upper floor of the two storey chalet includes three good-size bedrooms, a family bathroom and separate lavatory. There is a master double bedroom with built in wardrobe, another bedroom with a double and one single bed and the third with two single beds. All the rooms have clear views of Lake Geneva to the front or the dramatic rise of cliffs and pines into the mountains at the back.
The living area on the lower storey comprises a large open plan sitting room and dining area. There are three sofas and a large LCD TV with freesat should there be a need to keep up with UK viewing. In the dining area there is a large dining table and dresser as well as open fireplace. The living area opens to the front onto a large balcony with wonderful views of the valley down to Evian and the lake beyond with it furthest shores to the North and East bordered by Lausanne and Montreaux. To the back there is a large patio with the south facing garden beyond. The patio is equipped with outside dining furniture, sun loungers and BBQ.
There is a separate kitchen which is modern and fitted to suit all needs with a child-friendly induction hob, oven, fridge-freezer, microwave and dishwasher. From the kitchen there is a wooden spiral straircase that leads up to the bedrooms and down to the basement area. The basement has a shower room and lavatory leading into a large double garage containing a washing machine, tumble dryer and additional freezer.
The garden is a double plot mostly laid to lawn to the back and one side of the chalet. There are mature trees and shrubs at the borders providing a large area to laze in the sunshine and enjoy the panoramic views of lakes and mountains.

About this location
The Rhône-Alpes region
Thollon-Les-Memises is a small picturesque village at about 1000 metres altitude with a summer population of a few hundred burgeoning to around 2,000 during the winter sports season. There is a good choice of bars and restaurants as well as some small shops for everyday essentials. A 10 minute walk or two minute drive down the hill takes you to the village bakery as well as a cheese and yoghurt shop which makes much of its own produce courtesy of the local cow population. There is also a larger Spar supermarket and cashpoint.
Evian is just 15 minutes drive down the mountain where there is lakeside shopping and dining as well as swimming (including a large swimming complex with pools and lake swimming) and sailing. From Evian there is a ferry directly across the lake to Lausanne. The drive to Montreux is about 30 minutes. The Mont Blanc tunnel is about 90 minutes away and Italy beyond. In the immediate surround areas you can criss-cross beyond the Swiss and French borders for mountain walks, lake swimming and find activity centres that offer high wires and all sort of fun pursuits for the adventurous. More can be found at:
The village ski station is less than 100 metres from the chalet and there is a gondola lift to the ski area station at approximately 1600 metres. The ski area itself is quite small with about 50km of pistes and a combination of drag and chair lifts rising to about 1900 metres. It is ideal for family skiing with affordable lift prices as well as the chance to ski in good snow with beautiful views of expansive blue lake on clear days below. From Thollon-Les-Memises via the outskirts of Evian you can also reach the Porte du Soliel skiing area, including resorts such as Chatel and LesGets, in about 45 mins.

"One of the best chalets in the village"
Spent a lovely two weeks over the Summer at this chalet with our family of four older teenagers. One of those rare occasions where the reality is better than the advert, summed up by my younger son on… More
Hi Rick, thanks for your review and glad you enjoyed the chalet, Thollon and surrounds. Unfortunate about the noise from the road works in the private road that leads up to the chalet. This is a rarity - in fact we have never experienced road works in normally tranquil Thollon. However, there was a problem with the water main that feeds our chalet and those in the same road which has meant a bit of disruption hopefully to be resolved for many years to come. So it should be a lot quieter should you choose to come again. Thanks! Andrew

"Beautiful, clean, homely Chalet set in superb surroundings"
A home away from home. A very clean, homely chalet, well equipped and providing all one needs for a self catering holiday. Information is freely available on the best restaurants to visit, and the best hikes to make in the area. The only thing to watch out for is the very narrow winding staircase to get you up and down the different levels of the chalet. Not recommendable for someone who has mobility problems.
