Lionheart House is a beautiful stone built property, elegant, refined and characterful, with wooden beams, high ceilings, flagstone floors, and antique furniture. There are large living areas and four bedrooms with two modern modern bathrooms, downstairs toilet and a fully equipped kitchen.

A unique detached residence with fully enclosed walled gardens, Lionheart House has a pergola, loggia, and a summer swimming pool. There are many exterior terraces with relaxing views over the green rolling country side and forests of the Dordogne. It is scenically located next to an ancient chapel and church (no bells!) in a small quiet French village.

This ancient property has been refurbished in recent years to produce a characterful but modern family holiday home with an outdoor table tennis table, table football and large BBQ, Numerous sun terraces provide all you need for an unforgettable holiday in the private gardens.

Situated a five minute drive from Thiviers with its many supermarkets, bakeries and restaurants, the rest of the Dordogne is an easy journey from the house. A local freshwater swimming lake with white sand beach, ice-creams and bar facilities is ten minutes away and gives an extra dimension to your holiday on a hot afternoon.

The rooms in Lionheart House, are large, elegant and airy, great for the summer heat... There is a large salon with flagged floors. It has two sofas, several easy chairs and tables, bookcases, table football, games, and satellite television with Sky freeview channels. There is a large collection, indeed a virtual library, of books and films. This room leads directly into the outside loggia.

The living kitchen is across the original dark oak floored hallway and is another very large room with beamed ceiling. This has modern kitchen units, a Belfast sink with teak surround, an antique armoire, sofa, table and chairs and TV. All modern convienencies have been installed into the kitchen. There is a gas oven and hob, microwave, kettle, coffee machine, dishwasher, washing machine etc. There are two fridge /freezers to make shopping easy and fit in the essential cool drinks Across the hallway on the ground floor next to the back door is a cloakroom with wc, and wash basin.

You access the upstairs by a beautiful original curved wooden staircase.

There are two comfortable bedrooms both with double beds. They have bedside tables and side lights. The master double bedroom has an ensuite shower room with wc and wash basin. A large bath and shower room is also located on this bedroom floor. This has an original cast iron bath, antique wash basin, wc and separate shower. All bedrooms are fitted out with wardrobes and have beautiful views over the surrounding countryside and village. We also have a cot for babies. Please bring your own bedding for this


Lionheart House is designed for alfresco living, with many different outdoor sitting and dining areas set in beautiful private, walled gardens.

There are three dining areas, a large BBQ area, and sunloungers by the pool all with stunning rural views. The outdoor sitting area has a sofa, armchairs and coffee table with a large trellis wall covered with wisteria. A large loggia with tiled roof provides much needed shade and is an alternative seating area with swing seat. This faces south for maximum summer heat.

The summer swimming pool is ideal for children and also faces south and gets the sun all day. There is also outdoor table tennis on one of the front terraces. The landscaped series of balustrades, terraces and statues have been nicknamed by a local as "Petite Versailles".

The local area is rural and is made up of rolling hills of the Dordogne with beautiful rivers, forests and chateaux. The local town of Thivers has a large outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. Close to Lionheart House is a Plan D'eau..... this consists of a lake with white sand beach for swimming and lifeguard facilities. It has free access and good parking. There are also table tennis tables, volley ball court, cafe and childrens playground together with lots of shade.

Northern Dordogne, and Thiviers especially, is a centre of Gastronomy for all France. There are many fantastic restaurants with excellent food at reasonable prices in most larger local villages. Try the St. Jean Hotel in the elegant village of St. Jean de Cole. If you prefer to cook yourself, there are 4 supermarkets in Thiviers and markets on Tuesday and Saturday as well as smaller shops such as boulangeries and charcuteries. The regional centre is Perigueux which is a 30 minute drive from Lionheart House. It is a university city and has elegant boulevards, buildings and shops.

With Oak beams, exposed stonework, flagstone floors and antique furniture, the house retains its original 1868 character, but your comfort is assured as the property has been modernised to 21st Century standards.

Inside this characterful home is an extremely large family kitchen with a large kitchen table and all new modern appliances including a dishwasher. There are 2 fridge freezers to ensure the coldness of your food and drinks in the heat of the summer! There is also a sofa.

In the Salon (sitting room) there are 3 sofas and various easy chairs. There is a satellite television with English channels (BBC1-5, ITV 1-4 and Channel 4), a video/DVD player with many books, DVD's, Videos and Board games provided.

Upstairs the floors are carpeted to additional comfort for the bedrooms. Both bathrooms are fully tiled with showers and the main bathroom has an original cast iron bathtub.

All the upstairs windows give stunning views of Dordogne country life.

This stone built detached property is surrounded by it's own gardens and shaded terraces so is private.

The rear terraces show fantastic views over the rolling forested Dordogne countryside. The views of the stars are superb!

Alfresco meals can be prepared outside on a large BBQ situated on the front terrace.

A semi circular terrace with ballustrading at the rear has a setee and easy chairs.

At the south side of the house you will find a covered loggia with a second dining table, sunbeds and swingseat.

At the front of the property under the watchful eye of St Joseph's statue there is a third circular dining table for those who like the sun along with table tennis table. Outside the gates there is ample parking and room to play boules in front of the church.

The house is in the heart of the countryside, but part of a small hamlet where you have access to local walks and cycling. The property is also situated on the Santiago de Compostella pilgrim trial.

Situated in the Northern Dordogne, only five minutes from the market town of Thiviers and it's facilities, there are many excellent good value restaurants and historical sites to view including chateaux and caves.

The Dordogne region

The Dordogne has hot, dry, summers but with a landscape of rolling green coutryside. The evenings are warm and suited to outside dining. You can spend most of your time outside which is why there are many terraces and outdoor equipment for you to enjoy. This is the centre of gastronomy of France and the food is superb both in supermarkets and restaurants. There are numerous sites of historical interest especially about Richard the Lionheart, and many opportunities to follow activities such as canoeing, swimming and cycling.


Thiviers is the Fois Gras centre of France and nearby is Sorges the centre of truffles.

The Roman city of Perigueux is less than 30 minutes away. In addition to it's beautiful buildings it has large supermarkets and a golf course.

This is Richard Coeur de Lion countryside and he died besieging the Castle in Chalus only 15 minutes away.

Montbrun, Jumhilac le Grand, Hautfort, Castellnaud and Puyguillam are among the many Chateaux within easy reach.

There is a swimming and boating lake (Plan D'eau) ten minutes away which has a sandy beach and free entry and an outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts in Thiviers.

There is an assault course in the local forest called Acrobois.

Brantome provides beautiful religious architecture and is known as the Venice of the Dordogne.

You can also canoe and fish along the many rivers and there are numerous hiking and cycling routes.
