Northern England region

Any visitor to the county of Yorkshire will probably be aware of the historic city of York, which has huge cultural significance across the whole of Europe. York has an ancient past stretching back to Roman times and the city has managed to retain its magnificent architecture through the ages from this time, when it has variously been a major settlement for the Vikings and a focal point in medieval Britain. Dominating the city is York Minster which is Europe's largest Gothic cathedral and miles of city walls which go back to the 13th century. York today is a great mix of historical buildings, impressive architecture and a modern vibrant city with superb shops, cafes, restaurants and visitor attractions. To the south and east of York lies the Yorkshire Wolds; an area of gentle rolling hills, picturesque villages and busy market towns, making just the perfect place for relaxed breaks, easy walking, great cycling routes and plenty of sightseeing at historic stately homes.

Thirsk

The market town of Thirsk is also situated just five miles away from Kilburn Park Cottage and attractions within include the Thirsk museum offering an insight into the history of the town and the World of James Herriot which offers a variety of family activities and historical knowledge. There is also a Falconry birds of prey centre that is perfect for any bird watcher or lover, where you can get up close with many different magnificent birds. York is a vibrant city situated near Kilburn Park Cottage with plenty of things to do for everyone. For those who love sightseeing and history then there are lots of choices on where to visit. The Yorkshire museum is one of them along with the York Castle Museum, York Minster and the York dungeons. A York pass is also available on offer to visit many of the city's main attractions. York is also popular for retail therapy having many shopping facilities. There are many activities offered for those who love to keep busy such as cycling, swimming, windsurfing and golf. There are plenty of lovely restaurants to choose from and a choice of entertainment from both the cinema and theatre.
