The North York Moors National Park lies just inland from the North Yorkshire coastal resorts of Whitby and Scarborough and has 1,400 miles of trails, footpaths and bridleways, surrounded by heather clad rolling moor land dotted with pretty rural villages and historic country towns. Carving a pathway deep through the North York Moors is the famous North Yorkshire Moors steam railway, which carries passengers from Pickering in the south, north to Grosmont and then along the lovely Esk Valley to Whitby on the coast. This area handy for those who want to experience the many aspects that Yorkshire has to offer with easy access to both the Yorkshire Coast and Yorkshire Dales.
The village of Boltby offers a range of outdoor activities such as excellent walks and footpaths, gliding facilities and even horse riding at the Boltby pony trekking centre. Boltby is based within the North York Moors which offers plenty more different types of activities. There are many different types of walks to choose from that situate within this National Park. Guided walks are also available and dedicated routes for people walking with dogs. A variety of cycling routes are also found that range in difficulty to suit all abilities. There is a huge list of different outdoor activities that can be enjoyed on the North York Moors such as water sports, horse riding, motor sports and air sports – which are just to name a few! For those who prefer to take in sights and history in a slightly different fashion, there are also a huge variety of attractions to suit you. There are plenty of museums such as Captain Cook Memorial Museum and Farming Flashback where you can observe farming machinery. Other attractions include Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo, Staintondale Shire horse Farm and Scarborough Sea life and Marine Sanctuary. The market town of Thirsk is also situated just five miles away from Rowan Cottage And attractions within include the Thirsk museum offering an insight into the history of the town and the World of James Herriot which offers a variety of family activities and historical knowledge. There is also a Falconry birds of prey centre that is perfect for any bird watcher or lover, where you can get up close with many different magnificent birds.
