Carving a pathway deep through the North York Moors is the famous North Yorkshire Moors steam railway, which carries passengers from Pickering in the south, north to Grosmont and then along the lovely Esk Valley to Whitby on the coast. This area handy for those who want to experience the many aspects that Yorkshire has to offer with easy access to both the Yorkshire Coast and Yorkshire Dales.

"A heavenly cottage"

My husband and I spent a delightful week at Rowan cottage. The accommodation is very well furnished, the owner has clearly thought of everything including freshly laid eggs, home baked bread and flowers! The owner was very friendly but very discreet also although her house is joined to the cottage. The cottage is located in the lovely village of Boltby about 4 miles from Thirsk. It was a little haven of tranquillity and the perfect place to be to recharge batteries, go for country walks and bird watching from the back garden. It's the best self catering accommodation we've had in the Uk so far.
