Northern England region

The North York Moors National Park lies just inland from the North Yorkshire coastal resorts of Whitby and Scarborough and has 1,400 miles of trails, footpaths and bridleways, surrounded by heather clad rolling moor land dotted with pretty rural villages and historic country towns. Carving a pathway deep through the North York Moors is the famous North Yorkshire Moors steam railway, which carries passengers from Pickering in the south, north to Grosmont and then along the lovely Esk Valley to Whitby on the coast. This area handy for those who want to experience the many aspects that Yorkshire has to offer with easy access to both the Yorkshire Coast and Yorkshire Dales.

The sleepy village of Thirlby sits quietly tucked away at the foot of the Hambleton Hills within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. The village itself forms a small cluster of individual farmhouses and cottages, with a true feeling of ‘community spirit'. A small track from the back of the cottage leads you directly out towards Lake Gormire and onto the North Yorkshire Moors and Sutton Bank beyond with its magnificent far reaching views. Cycling is very popular in the area and a there are designated cycle paths leading across the moors for your enjoyment. You could experience an exhilarating ride in a glider from the top of Sutton Bank. The market town of Thirsk is just 7 miles away, and is famous for its James Herriot connections. In less than an hour from Thirlby, you can enjoy the breath taking Heritage East Coast, and the magnificent cathedral city of York is just a short drive. Littlebeck Cottage is ideally located for exploring this exciting area of Yorkshire.
