The Midi-Pyrenees / Tarn region
OVERVIEW The Tarn is situated in the foothills of The Pyrenees and is known as the land of milk and honey due to its verdant terrain. Characterised by rolling hills, working farms and medieval market towns, this is still "The Real France".
The views are lovely as there are mountain ranges on three sides - The distant Auvergne Mountains, the Black mountains, and further away the Pyrenees.
CLIMATE The weather is generally sunny and Mediterranean from May to August (average 28C) peaking in July in the mid 30's. April, September and October are pleasant (average 22C, but can be unpredictable) and the lght is beautiful for sightseeing. It can be cold in the winter, but also very warm!
HISTORY & PLACES OF INTEREST The region has a rich Cathar history much in evidence everywhere. Its architecture is impressive, with many grand properties built on the wealth brought to the region by the blue dye of the pastel plant.
Toulouse nearby is a vibrant city of rose coloured brick and is known as the Paris of the south. It has a vibrant nightlife and many shops, fine restaurants and museums.
There are many more interesting cultural towns such as Castres, Albi, Carcassonne and Cordes to name a few.
Teyssode / St Germier area
Our village is a ten minutes drive from Lavaur which benefits from two cathedrals, several supermarkets, a healthfood store (English spoken), a hospital, numerous restaurants and all modern day facilities including internet amd gaming access. It has a wonderful Saturday morning market. Other lovely Saturday markets are in Revel and Castres.
Throughout the summer there are many festivals, free concerts and fairs in the whole region. It is best to pick up the free brochures for current dates at the tourist office in Lavaur.
1 km away from our home iis Viterbe with a gourmet restaurant reknowned in the Tarn. Opposite the restaurant is a traditional bakery. There is also a beautiful golf course with pool & restaurant here.
There is much to do on all levels. The area has many biking and walking trails, including a 30 km roman road near the house. There are many sports centres in the various mountains for canoeing, kyaking and so forth. Quad biking is also popular. The brand new multi-leisure Cap'Découverte is under one hour from the house (www.capdecouverte.com - website in English)

Guestbook
We had a simply marvellous week in your beautiful house! It was one the very best weeks we've ever had in France...simply wonderful memories, like the unforgettably brilliant barbecue by the pool, sitting out chatting and drinking till well after midnight. Of course we also took full advantage of the superb pool, table tennis, gardens, babyfoot etc....not to mention the wonderful kitchen.

.. I just wanted to drop a note to say what a lovely place En Berat is and how well equipped it is. The owner has been very thoughtful, in the way it is furnished and all the little nick-nacs that make the place. We had a great time, found it extremely comfortable and the staff we dealt with, very helpful and curteous. Thanks once again Keith Farndell & Family, June 2008
I will definitely recommend the property to friends and relatives. We hope to visit again, at some time in the future. We have just returned from our 2 brilliant weeks in En Berat and wanted to send some feedback. The house and garden are truly beautiful with all the facilities we could possibly need. We were so relaxed that our 2 weeks felt like much longer. My parents joined us for a couple of days and they fell in love with the place too.
To step out of the heat of the day into the fabulous swimming pool was terrific, but my favourite time was sitting around the big granite table outside with a bottle of wine in the warm night air looking up at the stars and listening to the tree frogs and crickets chirping. We would definitely love to return to En Berat, it was the perfect house in the perfect location and made a truly memorable holiday.

We had an absolutely wonderful time in your beautiful home. Such a gorgeous house in a truly wonderful setting. You have clearly put so much love (and hard work!) into creating En Berat and we felt very fortunate to be able to 'share' it with you. One thing we particularly enjoyed doing was watering your many pots during the balmy evenings (glass of rose in hand as recommended). I really appreciated your collection of cookery books - my selection of holiday reading was almost left untouched in favour of Elizabeth David and regional french cookery!

We returned yesterday from a fantastic two weeks at En Berat and I just wanted to say thank-you for entrusting the property to our care for what was an amazing holiday. We have stayed in some pretty impressive properties before but En Berat was really special. An amazing location and a really beautiful and characterful house.
Owen Mulholland & Steve Johnston, July 2007
We absolutely adored En Berat! So sad to leave! It was so beautiful and beautifully equipped, & the region as wonderful as we remembered it. The flowers (esp the big patch of lavender), herbs, pool, view, kitchen, rooms, games - all perfect for 3 generations...we would certainly come back again. ..a majorly memorable fabulous trip.

This place is paradise and so relaxing! You can see it has been renovated with love. We had an amazing holiday touring the area and its lovely medieval towns. But our favourite moment of the day was rosé on the summer terrace as the sun was setting and watching our children jumping in the pool.
Linda and Peter Williamson, The Wirral, August 2006
This is the most wonderful house I have ever stayed in. You can see how much thought has gone into its renovation. Each piece of furniture has been carefully choosen, and the whole is totally harmonious, yet not intimidating. Nothing is fussy and I felt completely comfortable, as if I was in a home away from home.
Uva Lucks, Hamburg, July 2006
