Popcorn House
About the home
Popcorn House is set in the charming rural village of Cherni Vit. It's quaint environment harks back to days gone by with small herds of goats, sheep or cows regularly seen wandering their way up the road to their pastures, horses and carts trotting by and the locals carrying bundles of hay strapped to their backs to feed their animals. The village is set in the stunning mountainous region of Teteven in the Balkan National Park, an area famed for its fresh, pollution-free air.
The house itself used to be the village school and although it has been refurbished to modern standards, it still retains many beautiful natural features such as the original flooring and beams. Ideal for a family break for those who want to get away from it all and experience the "real" Bulgaria, with a river just at the bottom of the garden and surrounded by mountains enveloped in ancient Beech woods.

The Lovech region

The Lovech region with it's beautiful scenery and clean healthy air, is a popular holiday area for Sofians wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
For the active there are mountains to climb, rivers to follow and woodlands and caves to explore. For those who prefer a little culture there are many historic towns and villages to investigate and a fair few Monastaries too.
The Teteven / Cherni Vit area
The house itself is in the old fashioned village of Cherni Vit, a peaceful rural location, with friendly locals who told us they were honoured that we chose to buy a house in their village. But if you fancy a bit more excitement in your life then you don't have to look far! The nearest town is Teteven with a variety of shops and restaurants.
Venture up the next valley and you will find the village of Ribaritsa, which also has a variety of restaurants to dine in, some with live singing and dancing.
There are some spectacular caves near the village of Brestnitsa and at the same venue there are High Ropes and other climbing activities suitable for both adults and children.
On the hillside above Teteven you will find the stunning Koznitsa waterfalls. There are two nature reserves in the area, the Boatin and the Tsarichina, both part of the Central Balkan Mountains National Park.
The nearest monastary, built in the 13th Century, is set on a peak overlooking amazing scenery. The winding road leading up to it is pretty amazing too!
In the winter a local ski run is available in the nearby village of Ribaritsa.Or if you take your holiday in August you can catch the Cherni Vit festival. Groups of traditional singers and dancers come from all over Bulgaria to take part in this famous festival. Meanwhile May is the perfect month to experience the vast meadows of wild flowers.
