The Larnaca region

This area has something for all ages and types of tourist. The city of Larnaca has two seafront areas in the centre with miles of sandy beaches, some with the prestigious Blue Flag. There are promenades, cafes and watersports including paragliding, wind surfing, banana boats and diving courses at PADI diving centres. The new part is cosmopolitan, vibrant and fashionable, but the old areas still retain the original old Cypriot charm and quirkiness,as well as many historical sights of interest and significance in the area. There are theatres, fashion shops including famous names such as Next, Debenhams, Marks and Spencer and Top Shop, as well as other beautiful and traditional stores. The Larnaca Marina area is the place to be in the evening, with a wide variety of bars, restaurants and night clubs. There is a Sunday market and Ayia Napa is a very easy 30 minute drive, for more night life, restaurants and the best water park in Cyprus. An island of contrasts, the mountains offer stunning views and walks and there is ski-ing in the snow in winter.
The Tersefanou area
The village itself is still a traditional retreat, full of Cypriot atmosphere. It has several supermarkets and tavernas and a bus service to Larnaca approximately every hour and a half. It is very friendly, and English is widely spoken. There are several new beauty spas within walking distance of the complex, should you feel in need of pampering and relaxation. This is an excellent base to explore Larnaca, Ayia Napa, Limassol and Nicosia, using the very easy motorway network, which has English road signs and driving is on the left. There is horse-riding in the village, a garden centre, a family fun park-Pleasureland,all in walking distance and a karting track 10 minutes' drive away. The camel park at Mazotos is an enjoyable experience. Paphos is a pleasant day trip, for its beautiful harbour and mosaics, being just over an hour away. The village of Pervolia, 5 minutes' drive away, also has bars, tavernas and restaurants which offer traditional Cypriot cooking, European dishes, singing and dancing. The local bakeries have a selection of cakes and pastries to die for! The festival of Kataklysmos in June is a must-see, with parades, fairs, stalls, entertainment events at the promenade open-air theatre, fireworks, puppet theatres and competitions - and all free.

Many of the main british-based carriers such as B.A. , First Choice Airlines, Monarch, Thomson, Mytravel, Jet 2, Easyjet and Thomas Cook Fly into Larnaca airport, only ten minutes from Tersefanou, which does not cause a noise problem as the planes tend to take off and land over the sea-perfect!. Cyprus Airways and Aegean also fly in to Larnaca. Try Sky-scanners' website, Travel Republic and Traveldeals4less. Tersefanou is only one hour along the motorway from Paphos Airport (an easy drive-not like British motor-ways!) , which increases choice and flexibility.
Many international car hire companies operate from the airports, but I can give you details of a local company who provide a very personal service at the airport, which avoids queues and provides preferential rates and service to the owners' guests. His cars are recent models and immaculately clean and maintained. Ask for details. A taxi is around 17 euros, although I can usually arrange a transfer for you if required at around that price.

I worked on the island and was dropped off in the quiet town of Teresfanou a week before my friends and family arrived, with no means of transport other than a bike. I thought this was going to be an issue, however I was pleasantly surprised. The two bedroom terrace was ideally located within close distance to Larnaca city, and close enough for me to ride out to the pleasant rolling coast towards Zigi, or up into the foot hills of Lefkara. This means that anyone with a vehicle is within the blink of an eye from some of the most popular destinations in Cyprus. The apartment is furnished lavishly and has all the mod cons including air-con, a fully decked out kitchen and a flat screen HD TV with FOX movies and a DVD player (with a wide selection of DVDs). I have to admit I plugged a playstation 3 in when bored - but this wasn't very often. The downside is that there is no wifi on the property, which meant I had to go to a bar 1 mile up the road each night to email home or check my bank. Which I was disappointed with. The neighbors are very accommodating and helpful, and this adds to the feel of your stay, especially when socializing. The pool is lovely to cool down and go for a dip in - especially during the hot summer months after riding, running or just a day trip out. This location is not for the Agia Napa crowd though, and is more of a get away location for a family or young/middle aged couple who want to escape and relax away from the clubs etc. That being said, a car is ESSENTIAL if you wish to get out and see the island - if you dont have transport, expect to be bored in Teresfanou and Kiti very quickly. The local bars are fantastic though, and the food within the district is some of the best I have had on the island - much better than Nicosia. All in all, a great location with competitive prices. Response: I'm so pleased you enjoyed the house and the community it's in.and am so sorry you arrived by bike. It does state on the advert "car advised" as it is outside the city,as well as there being a bus regularly. This makes it an ideal "getaway" and family holiday, Dreamland being a short walk away. It's worth noting that wi-fi is available in a bar only round the corner. I hope this didn't spoil your stay too much. |
