Further details outdoors

For those who like their Italy a bit more Italian, the southern half of the boot holds many treasures, and few of them have been discovered, far less overrun by tourists.

Terracina is perfectly located as touring base to visit the real Italy.

Slightly more than 100 kilometres from Rome and 120 Km from Naples, Terracina lies on about fifteen Km of coastline, along the wide gulf marked off by the Circeo and Gaeta promontories. By taking a short walk in the old town you will discover characteristic shops and establishments, including small wineries, with history everywhere around you. Piazza del Municipio also offers a view of the two symbols of Terracina, the incredible sea and the Temple of Jupiter Anxur.

On especially clear days you can see the jewels of Campania, the islands of Ischia and Capri. Terracina is full of fine restaurants and is really good for shopping. The colourful fishermen's port-canal and two basins for pleasure-craft, and the arm of the port where the ships depart for Ponza (in the summer) and for Ventotene.

Those who enjoy the countryside as well as the sea need only venture a few miles into the interior to reach many interesting places. Terracina is definitely a must for everyone who loves Italy and its beauties.

Further details

In order to make a reservation we require a 40% down payment, the outstanding is payable in cash upon arrival. Several payment forms accepted: bank transfer, credit card, WU, cash.

The Lazio region

Terracina is located at the west coast of Italy at the Tyrrhenian Ocean, about half-way between Roma (100km)

and Napoli (120km) and our house is ideally located as a touring base to visit those two wonderful cities.

Pompeii and the Vesuvio volcano are pretty close too (150km).

Main distances from Terracina:

Gaeta (Lazio) 19km

Perugia (Umbria) 263km

Salerno (Campania) 219km

Florence (Toscany) 360km

Historical sightseeing is a given: Museo di Sperlonga, Castello di Itri, the antique handy crafts in Gaeta, Tivoli, Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este - a villa for cardinal d'Este, built from the shell of a Benedictine monastery. All between 20 minutes and about an hour away from Terracina. The cloister of Fossanova has an incredible architectural and spiritual beauty.

The famous film 'Il nome della rosa' by Umberto Eco with Sean Connery was shot here. The monks still live and work in that monastery. You can buy their home-made wine, honey, olive oil and infusions. There are several medieval hill towns around Terracina, of which each one is famous for a different cultural event or food: Sermoneta for art galleries and concerts, Sezze Romano for the celebration of the artichoke and the procession with actors at easter, Bassiano for its prosciutto and Maenza for its boletus edulis (funghi porcini) dishes.

Terracina Mare

For those who like their Italy a bit more Italian, the southern half of the boot holds many treasures, and few of them have been discovered, far less overrun by tourists.

Our place in Terracina is perfectly located as touring base to visit the real Italy.

It is really a particular experience visiting the upper historic city centre of Terracina; it is like travelling through the thousands events which marked the history from ancient times to our days. Every stone, building, road reminds events and famous people of the past.

Terracina is perfect for whoever loves sport. You can find many tennis courts, soccer and volley fields as well as trekking excursions. In the surroundings there are free climbing, windsurf, diving, rowing, paragliding, sail and canoe courses.

As far as night-life in Terracina is concerned, being tourist place, there's many possibilities, you can enjoy the live music on beach, restaurants, cinemas, pubs and discotheques as well. All of this makes Terracina an important and genuine tourist resort that is suitable for everyone regardless what age you are or what interest you have!

The apartment itself is fine, and the pictures accurately represent the inside. One problem is that since we stayed during the off-season, one of the bathrooms had a broken shower door ( YOU BOOKED THE APARTMENT ON THURSDAY TO CHECK IN THE FOLLOWING DAY AND I EXPLAINED WE WERE UNDER MAINTENANCE DURING THE LOW SEASON AND WE WERE WAITING FOR THE MISSING PIECE OF THE SHOWER DOOR WHICH WAS THEREFORE FULLY FUNCTIONING AND IF YOU DIDNT WANT TO USE IT, WE HAD A SECOND FULL BATHROOM FOR YOU TO USE), that the owner's helper who opened the apartment for us explained was caused by a group of tourists who stayed there during the summer. Not a big deal but still kind of annoying.

The real disappointment was that if you look at the picture of the view from the balcony, it seems like you just walk out on the balcony and see the sea opening in front of you. I don't know how on Earth they managed to take that picture. ( THE ADVERT STATES THAT THE SEA VIEW IS A "SIDE SEA VIEW" AND PICTURES HAS BEEN EASILY TAKEN IN FULL SUMMER, SIMPLY GETTING ON THE BALCONY AND NOT PHOTOSHOPPED AT ALL AS MANY PEOPLE DO - PLEASE READ OTHER REVIEWS TO SEE HOW OTHER GUESTS LIKED HAVING BREAKFAST LOOKING AT THE NICE VIEW). When we arrived I was looking for that view, but you open the window and all you see is an ugly apartment building and a parking lot, from pretty much every window of the apartment. The view that would be the sea is covered by trees, and even if the trees were removed, it's such a miniscule slice of sea that is visible, and you have to make such an effort to see it, that truly it is misleading to say that this apartment has a seafront view.

The boardwalk here was disgusting, covered in dog poo ( UNFORTUNATELY I CANNOT BE RESPOSIBLE FOR DOG'S OWNERS, EXPECIALLY AS IN SPRING/SUMMER TIME THE MUNICIPALITY CLEANS THE STREET EVERYDAY) and the beach was filthy and there were huge construction pipes covering a large part of the beach ( ???? PLEASE SEE PICTURES OF THE NEARBY BEACH ON THE ADVERT OR GOOGLE IT TO HAVE A MORE OBJECTIVE POINT OF VIEW) . What's more, the beach fronts a busy street so it's not quiet or secluded in the least.
(NEVER HAD A SINGLE COMPLAINT ON THE NOISE PLEASE SEE THE GUESTBOOK ON OUR OFFICIAL WEBSITE)

The only part of Terracina that's charming is the old city center, reachable by climbing a partially hidden staircase off the main street Via Marconi. It takes about a half hour to walk up to the old city from the apartment.

The price was an unheard of 95 EUR per night in November, the off season. In fact reflecting on that I can't believe I accepted it when there are other accommodations in gorgeous places that cost half that in November. When I saw my view of the adjacent apartment building and parking lot with dumpsters, I felt totally ripped off. ( WHY AM I LEARNING THIS HERE WHEN YOU COULD HAVE CALLED ME TO SAY YOU WERE NOT HAPPY WITH THE VALUE? IT DOESN'T SEEM FAIR TO COMPLAINT AFTER YOU DEPART) There was no contract and no receipt either, so all the guest is left to assume is that this business is run under the table. ( EVERY SINGLE GUEST HAVE ITS OWN RECEIPT, OFTEN VIA MAIL THE DAY BEFORE THE CHECK IN. HOW DO YOU DARE TO ALLUDE MY BUSINESS IS RUN UNDER THE TABLE? WE ARE AN AUTHORIZED HOME HOLIDAY AND HAVE ALL PERMITS FROM THE MUNICIPALITY )

I would only recommend this apartment if someone was desperate to stay in Terracina for some reason and everything up in the centro storico was fully booked. But I can't imagine any possible scenario of why anyone be desperate to stay in Terracina since the centro storico is truly the only charming part, but it's miniscule and has nothing to do with the beach.

Think typical summer rental for groups who just want close access to the beach and can split the price and pile in together in the apartment, which is spacious with 2 br and 2 bathrooms plus a sofa bed.

"The Sea Sound Apartment near the sea"

A spacious well presented apartment only a block from the beach (excellent location).
We stayed in May a party of six adults and had plenty of room for sleeping, cooking and eating. It also has a balcony which we found very useful.
From the apartment there were numerious individual shops selling fish, cheese, bread and fruit nearby as well as a choice of supermarkets.
We especially enjoyed the Friends Meeting Point bar which is further along the road near to the church.
If we have the opportunity to return to Terracina we would have no hesitation in checking the availability of The Sea Sound Apartment.

"Wonderful appartment - and great service from a lovely family."

The stay in The Sea Sound Appartment was the best! A really fresh and nice flat, one minute from the beach and close to everything else. Renting from a really serious and serviceminded family who does the best for you and your stay.
