The South East England / Kent region
Sussex is a county in South East England which has a long coastal area. The coastal towns include Hastings, Brighton, Worthing, Rye and Bognor.
The weather in Sussex is some of the best in Great Britain: it has on average more sunshine than any other mainland county.
The Tenterden / Wittersham area
Wittersham is a pretty rural Kent village in an area of outstanding natural beauty which can be found on the four and a half miles south of the pretty Kentish town of Tenterden and about the same distance to the south to the famous Cinque Port town of Rye . Wittersham stands high in the middle of the Isle of Oxney, which was once an island surrounded by sea water. The village sign shows an image of a longship, which refers back to the Danish invasion of Appledore in 892. It is very likely that the Danes occupied the Isle of Oxney, as a vantage point to view the troops of King Alfred the Great who it is believed were based at Newenden .
The Kent village has two good pubs ten minutes walk from the self catering holiday cottage, and there are wonderful walks in all directions for guests to enjoy during their stay in Kent.
The picturesque town of Rye is only a few minutes’ drive and has enchanting cobbled streets, medieval church and beautifully preserved historic houses from medieval, Tudor and Georgian times. Rye is almost suspended in time and has a uniquely unhurried atmosphere. It has great pubs and restaurants and pretty little unique small shops to discover. You can even buy freshly caught fish from the harbour!
The cathedral city of Canterbury is 35 miles to the north of this holiday cottage which is well worth a visit whilst you are in the Kent area. If you are looking for a beach, the Kent holiday cottage is about 20 minutes from Camber with its fabulous sandy dunes and miles of beach and charming Winchelsea, famous for its picturesque village centre and great beach.
As Kent has more castles than any other county there are lots to visit during your stay at this luxury holiday cottage – particularly the beautiful moated Leeds Castle, and Dover Castle with its wonderful historic battlements and the secret World War II chambers dug into the white cliffs. Additionally the High Speed train can be caught from Ashford making London a 35 minute journey!
