The West Wales/Pembrokeshire region
Tenby is in Pembrokeshire National Park - Britain's only coastal national park. In 2010 a panel of 340 National Geographic magazine experts ranked Pembrokeshire as the second best coastline in the world beating places like The Seychelles, Bermuda and Costa Rica. An online travel adviser 'Cheapflights' rated the Coast Path as the third best walking trail in the world. Last year, Tripadvisor asked its cutomers to vote on their favourite beach destinations in the UK and Tenby was rated 5th.
Film crews have been in the area recently with Freshwater West being used for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Robin Hood with Russell Crowe; Marloes for Snow White and the Huntsman and Barafundle Bay for Third Star and Manorbier and the Preselis fo Round Ireland with a Fridge.
Ironman Wales has taken place in Pembrokeshire the last two years and is due to return this September. Based in Tenby, the early morning swim was well worth getting up for with approximately 1500 competitors in the water off North Beach; the cycle section covers most of the south of the county with many roads closed to facilitate safe passage and is a spectacle for visitors and locals alike - the final run in of the marathon passes in front of Carnock to the finish line at the end of the Esplanade.
With so many places to walk, visit or just sit on a bench and enjoy the views, Tenby is well located for all South Pembrokeshire has to offer. The beaches are soft, clean and sandy - Blue Flag status ensure good water quality and RNLI lifeguards in the summer season, with plenty of facilities such as toilets and cafes. Use a combination of train and coastal buses for walking the coast path if you want to leave the car behind.
With many events and festivals taking place throughout the year, for up to date information contact Tenby Tourist Information Centre on 01834 842402 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park runs a visitor centre in Tenby and whilst not a Tourist Information Centre, they do have a lot of information and an exhibition about the National Park - tel. 01834 845050 or e-mail email@example.com They also produce an excellent free information paper/magazine called 'Coast to Coast' covering places to go, timetables, events and listings.

"The location was great, the cleanliness in the room was not!"
The location could not have been better, the property was on the esplanade overlooking the sea and beach. Inside the studio, the view from the 2nd floor was spectacular. The cleanliness in the toilet … More
Thank you for your review of your recent stay in Studio C202 in Carnock House, and my apologies for not responding earlier but I have been away since the end of September.
Your comments regarding cleanliness are clearly cause for concern, as the standard you found in the toilet and shower areas should also have been replicated in the kitchen area and around the room. Unfortunately, during the three days you stayed in Carnock, we were totally unaware that you had not found the room to your satisfaction as at no time did you let us know that this was the case. I was in work every day during your three night stay from Tuesday 24th to Friday 25th September, and neither myself or Reception Staff in the Clarence Hotel - the contact point for Carnock House arrival and departures - were approached either in person or by any other means of communication.
Given your descriptions, I do not understand why we were not given the opportunity either to verify your comments or, more importantly, address the situation. In providing self-catering accommodation, problems do arise and there are times when items stop working/get broken or have been damaged which is not immediately obvious but one of the reasons many guests regularly return to stay in Carnock House is that Clarence Reception staff are ready and willing to do whatever is possible to rectify any particular problem if they can, or alternatively arrange for either myself or professional tradesmen to attend if necessary. Whilst the room folders and notices give this information, on this occasion you chose not to give us this chance.
Since your departure, C202 has not been occupied. I have inspected the curtains both at the window and across the bed area and can find no evidence of food over them. The mattress protectors that are used on beds are washed regularly and maybe this is why you felt they had seen better days. Guests have the choice of bringing their own bed linen or can hire linen and towels direct from the Clarence Hotel.
All accommodation in Carnock House is graded 2* by the Wales Tourist Board following guidelines which have been harmonised across the UK regardless of grading authority. Again, if we had been able to discuss your areas of concern, you could have let me know which EU standards you felt had not been achieved.
I am glad that Tenby itself did not disappoint and that you managed to enjoy the spectacular views from the windows. Pembrokeshire is a wonderful place and it is hoped that on another occasion you find accommodation that is more acceptable and you return to enjoy and explore the area further.
