The West Country / Somerset region
The home of traditional farmhouse cider, Somerset offers 3 areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Quantock, Mendip and Blackdown Hills. Lose yourself in the glory of nature, take a ride on a steam train, visit a traditional farmers’ market or explore your mystical side at Glastonbury. Don’t forget the great cathedral at Wells and the vibrant cities of Bristol and Bath. Explore the fossils and stunning beaches of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, visit historic Sherborne and Shaftesbury, or enjoy the footpaths, country lanes and thatched-roof pubs Dorset offers.
The Templecombe area
Templecombe is a village located in idyllic countryside and farmland where east Somerset joins North Dorset, at the heart of the Blackmore Vale. The area offers many attractive views, and the village offers great pubs, village shops and numerous beautiful rural walks. If you like a spot of fly fishing, this can be arranged on the local river with day permits. The ancient town of Sherborne, whose castle was once the home to Sir Walter Raleigh, is only a short drive away, as is the interesting hilltop town of Shaftesbury. This lovely part of the world also offers Glastonbury, ancient Stonehenge, and Stourhead gardens, which are all located within easy driving distance.

Guestbook for 2773 - Hill House Cottage
We had a wonderfully comfortable and relaxing stay. The cottage has every luxury of home. The building has huge architectural merit, a pleasure to be able to stay in such a lovely property.

,We couldn't fault anything with the cottage, it was beautifully furnished and had everything we needed. This was our second visit to Hill House Cottage, we went two years ago and really loved it. There's loads to do within a short car journey. We went to Sherbourne, Lyme Regis, Longleat, Street and Stourhead Gardens. Our two children loved it. There's also a soft play centre 10 minutes up the road.
The owners were lovely, making us a delicious banana cake and recommending a lovely pub, The Stapletons Arms, that were fine with us bringing our 9 month old baby as well as our 3.5 year old in for dinner. We've already said we will be back again in a year or two so the boys can go to Longleat again. We will definitely stay at Hill House Cottage again.

,The cottage has a great deal of character and was convenient for traveling around the area. Although there is only one space advertised we managed to park both cars one behind the other. The owners were very helpful and friendly when we met them. My sister feels the cold so was happy that the heating was so efficient. The beds were comfortable.
