We invite you to a tropical paradise; located two minutes walk from a marine coral reserve in the quiet northern Balinese village of Bondalem. Experience the original feeling of the old Bali in our spacious house built with traditional Indonesian materials with a touch of Tuscany.
We are unique in having a fully walled and gated property so close to the beach yet completely private and away from the gaze of the many beach walkers. Our garden is extensive with a magnificent pool overlooking a multitude of tropical plants, flowers and fruit trees.
Enjoy an early morning walk to watch the sunrise or sunset into the Bali Sea or relax and enjoy the tranquil setting and large number of birds and butterflies that inhabit this special place. There are many relaxation places including a breakfast area, outside dining area, sofas and sun beds.
On the spacious main terrace you can have your meals prepared by our cook (highly recommended), use the extensive kitchen to prepare your own meals or walk to the many nearby restaurants located within the resorts and retreats on the beach at Bondalem.
Up to four people can enjoy the large main house with high vaulted hardwood ceilings, with its open design to allow natural breeze to float through the rooms. Sleep well in the two large bedrooms, huge 2x2 metre glorious mattresses and comfy pillows, or enjoy a late night movie from our huge DVD collection.
For groups of more than four persons there is additional small guesthouse in the front garden. There the guests are provided with a queen-sized bed, private en-suite bathroom with a unique inside/outside shower and lovely terrace.
From the front gate, a charming narrow coconut-lined path leads you to the grey sandy beach and the Bali Sea. Villa Taman Ayu is situated in the middle of an extensive two kilometre long coral reef, perfect for snorkelling and likely to be an up-coming scuba diving attraction.
During your stay our managers Dewi and Lusi will take care of all your needs. Service includes daily cleaning and fresh linen every third day. Coffee, tea and purified water are also provided for free.
For at extra charge Dewi can arrange a driver for airport transfers and sightseeing tours - including trips to temples, waterfalls, rice terraces, plantations and Mount Batur. Dewi can also arrange car or motorbike rental if you prefer to drive yourself.
Lusi or one of her staff can cook you a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner; obtain groceries for you, or organise other professional services like in-house massage. You could also walk a few hundred metres to one of the nearby resorts that not only serve meals but also offer spa and wellness services (such as massage, aromatherapy and reflexology) as well as canoe and stand-up paddle board hire.
Our staff can arrange trips with the local fisherman to take you out to sea so you can enjoy the sunrise in a small traditional fishing boat, with the chance of watching dolphins and a glorious view back towards the mountains that fringe the north coast. They will also let you know when and where traditional Balinese ceremonies are to occur and if you are lucky you may be invited along.
Villa Taman Ayu is situated in a quiet, typical Balinese neighbourhood at the end of a small tree-lined street leading to the Centre of Bondalem. The village is truly a hidden gem, and perfect for those wanting a change from the hustle and bustle of South Bali.

The Bali region
Welcome to Bondalem. The north of Bali is a far cry from the busy south. The central mountainous terrain drops steeply down to the north's little populated coast, the area filled with brilliant green rice paddies, rainforests, and the clear blue Java Sea. What also defines the region is the impact of foreign traders from India, China and the Arab world, as well as a strong Balinese Hindu influence which gives the culture a different feel to the south. Be enchanted by the beauty of this part of the island - a great contrast and an essential visit to round off your Bali holiday .
Take a 40 minute drive to the city of Singaraja, once the capital of Bali and seat of the old Dutch administration. Although the city is home to 100,000 people, it has wide avenues and a spacious feel. The covered market, Pasar Anyar, is filled with hawkers, providing a glimpse into Balinese life. You can enjoy one of the restaurants at the harbour (built on platforms out on the open sea with views of the mountains in Java), bathe in the hot mineral springs of Banjar, and on the way back stop in at the coastal resort of Lovina for a walk on the boulevard or stop at one of its many restaurants.
Highlights in the north include numerous temples, waterfalls, dive sites, parks, walking adventures, volcano climbing, dolphin watching, art markets. You can also visit other islands such as Java, Flores (includes Komodo Island), as well as taking a fast boat to the Gili Islands and nearby Lombok.
Another great excursion is to the artist's village of Ubud (about 90 minutes to the south) where you can walk through paddy fields, shop in the local market, enjoy fabulous restaurants and visit the local artists in their homes in nearby Penestanan. Perhaps climb Mount Agung, an active volcano, on the way back. White water rafting is another popular activity.
There are a large number of excursions available throughout the island. Perhaps contact us if you want advice or to arrange a driver, or do some research and design your own unique visit to the North.
It is worthwhile exploring the local area on foot, or by water. The beach, the village and the nearby mountains are all worth a visit. You will experience the openness of the Balinese people and enjoy the local culture. Be part of the early morning hustle and bustle at the village market, or take a trip out to sea on a local fishing boat at sunrise and encounter the resident Dolphins.
Enjoy reading a good book or simply relaxing and dreaming in our new Bale by the pool. Visit the many local temples and enjoy the festivals such as the full moon ceremony. Take a cycle trip or hop in a canoe and paddle around the local foreshores. Join the visitors at dawn to the many wellness centres in the region and watch the sun come up over the Java Sea - or stay in bed. You will find Bondalem a lovely area, well away from the usual tourist run. Enjoy!!

"Brilliant week in paradise"
I was expecting a beautiful house in a rural area of Bali but I received so much more. We were looked after so well by everyone connected to the property. Our needs were anticipated and met by positiv… More

We first visited Bali. Before the trip, we decided to find a place away from the tourist centres in the nature of Bali and always by the sea. Villa Taman Ayu is located in the North of the island and was the perfect place for our vacation. The Villa has very beautiful interior of the house, designed in Balinese style, beautiful yard and clean the pool. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Family managers Dewi and Lucy became our friends. We did tours of the island, swam in the Bali sea and sunbathed. And what was the cost Balinese massage, which we did right at the Villa! We had a wonderful two weeks at the Villa and want to go back to Bali again
we are so glad you and the family had such a good holiday at our villa. we would love to welcome you back sometime in the future.
best regards Dee and Peter

"Exotic, relaxing place away from the madding crowd!!"
This is a beautiful gem near a quiet village in northern Bali - the village does not cater for tourists so you have to either eat and entertain yourself via a couple of resorts, or explore the local villages and get to know how the locals live.
The villa has everything you need - it's a tastefully renovated large house and cute bungalow for a couple. the garden is beautifully maintained and looks gorgeous, particularly in the morning. The staff are friendly and more than helpful - Lusi is a great cook!!
We ate a few times at Minings warung near the Tetjakula bridge - dinner for 3 for less than $15 Aud.... or you can eat in - shop at the early morning market for beautiful fresh fruit and vegetables as well as fish off the boat.
The coral is 100 m from the beach - it felt as though we had it all to ourselves and the fish are coming back in great varieties.... there are also kayeks which are perfect for exploring the coastline for hire from Shangri La.
One downside to the villa is that the neighbours on the north side are pretty noisy - sometimes very early in the morning - if you have a choice, pick the bedroom on the south side or the bungalow....
Thanks for your kind comments on our villa. Yes, Lusi is indeed a great cook which is why we love staying there ourselves! We are so sorry however that during your long stay the nearby neighbours were noisy on some occasions. Please rest assured that these comments have been passed on to our staff and action has been taken.
We would love to have the opportunity to welcome you back again.

"The peacefulness and serenity of the surroundings"
Our stay was simply blissful. We weren't expecting so find such a sophisticated, beautifully furnished villa offering such graceful and easy living. The high, open beamed ceilings, overhead fans and shuttered windows with no glass all contributed to a lovely, breezy feeling. We were spoiled for choice with several relaxing areas - a sumptuous daybed on the main verandah were many an hour was spent reading books;, low antique chairs on another verandah ideal for morning coffee and listening to the birds - and of course the traditional-style 'bale' adjacent to the stunning swimming pool which was big enough to do laps! The kitchen is huge and well appointed. We made our own breakfast and lunch but elected to have our dinners cooked for us in-house by the friendly staff who could not do enough to please, thank you Dewi and Lusi! The gated grounds are fabulous, and filled with interesting little areas carefully decorated with Balinese statues and traditional lamps. The beautiful, well-established garden abounds with exotic fruit trees and flowers. We were never short of a mango or papaya for breakfast! Best of all, the short walk down the path leads to a quiet beach where we could swim and see the tropical fish and coral right off the shore! The owners provide snorkeling gear for their guests which was a thoughtful touch as we hadn't thought to bring our own. All in all, a great find and excellent value for the price.
Thank you so much for your lovely review, Justine - much appreciated! We do hope you will come and stay again!
