The West Country / Devon region
The West Country offers the holiday maker beaches, moors, walking, riding, boating and sightseeing opportunities. Local fine food, ales, cider and wines and the mildest weather with the most hours of sunshine in Britain.
Very accessible from anywhere in the UK via - plane, train or car. Exeter is 12 miles away with its historic quay, cathedral and recently re-developed award winning shopping centre. Torbay, Dartmoor and Exmoor are all within easy reach.
The Teignmouth area
Teignmouth is an historic port on the mouth of the Teign estuary and has all the attractions of a seaside town, including a Victorian pier. This working harbour, with many vessels, large ships, fishing boats and pleasure craft, entering and leaving the port is a holidaymaker's delight. Teignmouth is a town of two different characters. Along the seaward edge of the town is 'the Den', a large open space with lawns and flower beds that runs along the length of the town - between the promenade and an elegant crescent of Georgian buildings. The Den, is where most of the towns holiday activities take place. As well as a pier, other entertainment facilities include a theatre, cinema and model railway, children's play areas, tennis courts, bowling greens and a miniature lighthouse that marks the entrance to the harbour. For a different atmosphere, visit the estuary side of the village, where boats rest peacefully in the busy harbour, ferries take people across the estuary mouth to the quaint picturesque village of Shaldon, just across the water. The estuary is a lively place, with waterside inns, boats for hire, fishing boats, yacht and beach huts - set against the stunning backdrop of Shaldon and the rolling fringes of Dartmoor, which can be seen in the distance. The town has undergone significant improvements over recent years which have included the pedestrianisation of the central area, making strolling around the shops more pleasant without the bustle of traffic. There is a wide variety of shops in Teignmouth and the area is well served by several local pubs in the town which provide a warm welcome. The rest of the town is a thriving mixture of interesting old back streets, pedestrian precincts and open public spaces. The town has a very relaxed feel to it, as you wind your way through narrow streets that suddenly open up into an open area, with more narrow streets and alleys beckoning you to investigate them. The town is an ideal place to explore - find a pavement cafe and just watch the world go by. Apart from its sea-facing beach and pier, the beach wraps around the spit at the head of the river Teign providing another beach on the estuary side which overlooks the harbour with its moorings for many pleasure craft. There is a ferry which operates from the River Beach carrying passengers to Shaldon which is just across the river. It is worth taking the ferry across to Shaldon village especially on 1785 day which is usually held every Wednesday from May to September. On 1785 day the locals dress in period costume and there is a variety of stalls, crafts and entertainment.

Nice location although the single track leading to the property was a hair raiser in a people carrier!
Lovely open plan area and clean fresh rooms.
Would have benefitted from a separate shower as my elderly father struggled with the bath and had there been more than 6 of us we wouldn't have managed. The property states that it can take 8 but I wouldn't want anymore than 6.
Garden area is lovely and the Buzzards flying so near to the house was spectacular.
Well placed for getting out and about and exploring.

The location of the property is fantastic, high on a hill overlooking Teignmouth with views of the sea and town through room-wide sliding patio-style windows. The fronting electronic gates access proved great enjoyment to our 'master of the gates' 6-year old grandson. Inside, the bungalow, with underfloor games room and gym equipment, was spacious for the 5 of us and well-furnished throughout, including a modern tiled bathroom with a deep welcoming bath. The main living area included a large wooden dining table, two large 3-seat sofas and wall-mounted flat-screen tv. Outside, the property has a large lawn to the right, ideal for a friendly tap-around if you are into football.
We used the property as a base to explore Devon - its countryside and eating establishments. The weather wasn't ideal - lots of showers - but by the evening on most days we could enjoy splendid sunshine.
Obviously we rented the property at the beginning of the School holidays and the price reflected that but for the 5 of us and the accommodation we occupied I have no complaints.
