The Canary Islands region

La Palma island is known as “La isla bonita”, the pretty island. Home to almost intact natural resources, with landscapes of remarkable beauty. La Palma is called "Isla Verde", the green island which reveals a multitude of colours beneath one of the best skies in the world in terms of astronomic observation. La Palma has abundant plant life (which is the most diverse in the Canary Islands). It is famous for its Spring Almond Blossoms and Banana plantaions. It is 200 m above the sea level and offers a warm and pleasant weather all year around.

La Palma is the most north-westerly of the Canary Islands with an area of 706 km2. The capital, Santa Cruz de la Palma is the island's main port and retains many elegant 17th- and 18th-century houses, and produces high-quality handmade cigars made from locally grown tobacco. La Palma, like the other islands of the Canary Island archipelago, is a volcanic ocean island. The volcano rises almost 7 km (4 mi) above the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. There is road access from sea level to the summit at 2,426 m,[1] which is marked by an outcrop of rocks called Los Muchachos ("The Lads"). This is the site of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, one of the world's premier astronomical observatories.

The local economy is primarily based on agriculture and tourism. Platanos (or Bananas) are grown throughout the island with many banana farms on the western side of the island in the valley of Los Llanos de Aridane. Other crops include: Strelitzia (or 'Bird of Paradise') flowers, oranges, avocados and grapes (which grow well in the volcanic soil). Local ranchers herd cows, sheep and goats. Fisherman operating from Santa Cruz, Tazacorte and Puerto Naos catch fish for the local markets.

The most famous structures of La Palma are the minas galerias (water tunnels) which carry the water from sources in the mountains to cities, villages and farms (mainly banana plantations). To visit the galerias a permit is required. It is possible to walk alongside many of the aqueducts, a popular activity for tourists. The tour to the Marcos y Corderos waterfall and springs is also popular.

Tazacorte

Casa Elegante apartment is located in Tazacorte within 5 minutes walking distance to the City Center. Where you find local shops, grocery stores and bars and restaurants. There are other restaurants on this island where they serve their specialties such as Mojo, Gofio, local goat cheese in a variety of delicious sauces and of course fresh sea food.

The city sport and recreational center is across the street and offers indoor and outdoor pools. The nearest beach is Puerto Naos which is only 5 minutes away by car and 20 minutes by foot from the apartment. This a beautiful and cozy black sand beach, where the blue skies and the blue ocean meet at the horizon. The sunset is breath taking and romantic. It is suitable for the families and offers a play ground and numerous bars and restaurants and shops for your pleasure.

The nearest big town is Los Llanos about 8 km away where it offers a variety of attractions, parks, cafes, restaurants and shops.
