Previous guests simply rave about Gigha! In fact, we've got one couple that have clocked up a 600 mile round trip 6 times they like it so much! The apartment itself is beautiful - I'll let the photos speak for themselves. The location is probably even better - set in the lush green tropical gardens of the Killean Estate, your neighbours will be the gazillions of pheasants, partridge and rabbits darting about the undergrowth, as well as the lambs and sheep in the adjoining field. Serene and peaceful is a bit of an understatement. After a short stay here escaping the frantic-ness of the rat-race, you will leave feeling de-stressed and calm. You can of course still do stuff here - its not all about 'chilling out'. There's plenty to see and do in the area should you so choose, but then you can come back to the warmth of the cottage, cosy up by the real log fire (and the other half) and relax!

Further details indoors

Gigha is a beautiful, period one bed apartment located on the upper floor of the Garden House. Retaining many of the original features, including a fantastic, 'wow-factor' beamed ceiling in the lounge, and real open fire, the apartment is the perfect romantic retreat for two!. It enjoys great elevated views out over the tropical gardens with glimpses towards the sea and the islands beyond through the trees.

There is an exterior stone staircase which leads up to the apartment. Inside, the spacious accommodation comprises hall, bathroom (bath with shower over), dining kitchen, lounge, king-size bedroom and is furnished with antique pieces throughout.

Further details outdoors

There is a sheltered walled garden next to the property, as well as the 4000 acres of the surrounding estate which you are free to explore. This includes over a mile of beaches, farmland, hills, woodland, three lochs, various burns (rivers) and manicured gardens.

Pets: pets are not allowed inside Gigha itself, however we have outdoor-type kennels on the estate if required.

The Argyll and Bute region

Argyll encompasses much of the west coast of Scotland, including islands such as Islay, Jura and Mull. It has miles and miles of the most stunning coastal scenery and is a place steeped in Celtic history...... known as the very birthplace of Celtic Scotland itself.

Tourist towns such as Inverary and Oban are a must see, and the famous Loch Fyne Oyster Bar on the way to us is surely a place to stop and have lunch. In fact, the road leading to Killean from Glasgow is littered with tourist hot-spots...... you will drive around Loch Lomond and then over a small mountain pass before coasting around the edges of Loch Gilp and Fyne until you hit the Atlantic coast. It will be a memorable trip for sure, offer the most stunning views and give you lots of ideas for days out during your break.

Kintyre is on the extreme west coast of the mainland, joined to the mainland by a narrow isthmus at Tarbert. It as all the characteristics of island living without the inconvenience and expense of essential ferry crossings, as Kintyre is accessible by both road and ferries.

Tayinloan

Welcome to the Kintyre Peninsula, Scotland's Only Mainland Island! Join us on the Kintyre Trail, journey from Tarbert through Campbeltown on the way to the Mull Of Kintyre and find out what captivated and inspired Sir Paul McCartney to wrote one of the world's best selling hit songs, 'Mull of Kintyre'.

The Kintyre Peninsula is about forty miles long and contains fantastic family days out, plenty of things to do and see and Scottish attractions making Kintyre an attractive family holiday destination. On your journey to and around Kintyre you will find the stunning hills & lochs, sandy beaches and stunning sunsets, history and archaeology, and of course seafood which have made this part of Scotland famous. Additionally there are small extras that make Kintyre almost unique; the palm trees in Campbeltown shows the effect of the Gulf Stream, low rainfall (less than 40% of the rest of the west of Scotland), rare golden eagle nesting sites (the most expensive eagles in the world), the absence of traffic jams (our one traffic warden is the last example of an endangered species), two world class golf courses on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean featuring the 'best first hole in the world', and a great established Scottish walk that has to be attempted. Kintyre's a land which is the very cradle of Celtic Scotland, and much more bedsides.

There's plenty to see and do in the area. A boat trip to Gigha is highly recommended where we suggest you hire the bicycles from the beach-shack, tour the Achamore Gardens and take lunch at the boathouse overlooking the bay. A 25-minute drive north from Killean Estate will take you to Tarbert harbour, home of some of Scotlands finest restaurants, and if you continue another 15-minutes onto Skipness, you'll discover a castle, fabulous bay and our previous guest's top-rated destination for seafood. A short trip south from Killean will uncover horse-riding and a historic house at Glenbarr, a couple of superb surfing beaches at Westport and Machrihanish, the Mull of Kintyre and the harbour town of Campbeltown which has plenty to do - whiskey tours, museums, leisure swimming pool, pubs and the opportunity of boat trips such as whale watching. If golf is your bag, there's plenty of choice - there are five course nearby including Owd Tom's famous Machrihanish Links! But why not take a quick tour around the Kintyre Trail and find out for yourself?

"Comfortable apartment, well equipped and very peaceful surroundings"

Enjoyed the short break. We arrived late in the evening and the apartment was warm and welcoming. We were entertained each day with the numerous Pheasants which wandered about the grounds. The Kint… More

"A relaxing week spent in a home from home, a good tonic."

We chose the downstairs apartment of Garden Cottage, Cara. No stairs, two bedrooms and a spacious shower cubicle, it suited our needs best. The cottage is well equipped, comfortable and cosy. Very clean and tidy.
Estate staff were friendly and helpful and clearly very dedicated. The local Post Office is welcoming and well stocked.
This was our first trip to Kintyre, we were lucky with the weather, staying a week we had only two wet days, the remainder were bright, clear and sunny, and much warmer than our home in Perthshire.
Campbeltown was disappointing, a town much in need of some TLC. Glenbarr Village shop and the Watering Can Cafe recommended. Skipness Seafood Cabin did not impress, maybe our choice of meal was wrong. Some nice places to eat in Tarbert.
Kintyre is not a location for excitement seekers, but for those who enjoy peace and sea air it is ideal. Lots of places to walk and enjoy the countryside.
